If you were amazed by Benedict Cumberbatch‘s genius talent on screen then wait till you see the automotive brand he’s the brand ambassador for in India. Morris Garages is a world-famous British automotive brand, which is set to launch in India this year. And who else to represent a quintessential Brit brand than an icon like Benedict? He has become a sensation here because of his outstanding big screen performances. So, it was an apt choice, indeed!
Founded in the years 1924, the marque carmaker is world famous for its automotive varieties from sports cars to roadsters to their cabriolet series. Serving the elite of the UK like Prime Ministers and the Royal Family, it has established itself as the brand to own over the last 95 years. In India, they have already set up a car manufacturing plant at Halol in Gujarat and have started the manufacturing operations. MG India plans to introduce first of the new models, Hector, by the second quarter of this year. So, selecting the right brand ambassador at such a crucial stage became very important.
Apart from being famous for the well-known movie characters that we all recognise him for, Benedict has a unique linkage to India. It might not be a known fact but during his gap year, Benedict travelled to India and was teaching English in a Darjeeling Tibetan monastery. But, of course, he being a strong cultural reference for us, bagged him the role of being the brand ambassador for MG India. Managing Director and CEO, MG India, Rajeev Chaba further explained the relevance:

I have grown up seeing and reading about MGB’s and MG Midgets, recognising MG as a classic and iconic brand. I am delighted to be part of the launch of the new MG in India with the MG Hector, which may well be a classic of the future.
