Urmila Matondkar has entered the ranks of several Bollywood actors who joined politics, namely Shatrugan Sinha, Hema Malini, Govinda and several others. The actress announced her political innings with an Instagram post featuring the party leader, Rahul Gandhi.

Urmila mentioned her happiness about lending her name to a political party which believes in democracy, secularism, freedom and equality for all. The 45-year old actress is likely to be named the Congress candidate for the Mumbai North Lok Sabha seat against BJP MP, Gopal Shetty.
