Jane the Virgin
Jane the Virgin

The American romantic-comedy drama Jane the Virgin began its final season in March this year. With the series almost coming to an end, it’s a sad time for us fans. Leaving Jane, Rafael, Mateo, Rogelio, the other characters and all the telenovela drama is definitely going to be heartbreaking. That got me thinking, what if we could bring these characters closer home and adapt it in Bollywood?

I know guys, it’s not easy and always successful, but just for the fun of it, why not!? So, this was exciting for us to come up with, and we are certain that we could be real good casting directors after this! There’s too much to cover friends, let’s just dive into it, shall we?!

Here’s a list of the Bollywood actors we thought would fit Jane the Virgin best:

Taapsee Pannu as Jane

This was a tough one. We have grown with Jane  — seen her through her tough times, and celebrated with her during her happy ones. We needed someone who has an endearing personality, a voice of her own and is vulnerable in love. Taapsee Pannu came to our mind because well, she certainly has a distinctive personality, and is rather convincing in her films like Pink and Manmarziyaan. We totally see her as Jane.

Aditya Roy Kapur as Rafael

Rafael (Justin Baldoni) in a still from Jane the Virgin, Aditya Roy Kapur in a still from Kalank

Well, this was purely because they look like long lost twins! This stark resemblance was honestly the main reason we got to thinking about the Bollywood remake of this show. Aditya’s charm and his sexy self is so Rafael, we couldn’t have found a better cast for this. Not just us, even Justin Baldoni agrees that Aditya is his doppelgänger. See his tweet here.

Aditya Seal as Michael

Michael Cordero is a nice and decent guy whom you would want to take home to meet your parents. Aditya Seal, who was recently seen in Student Of The Year 2, is our pick to play Jane’s other love. After all, he has that earnest and nonchalant charm to him. Plus, his chocolate boy (yet sexy) looks make him the perfect choice for Michael’s role.

Kalki Koechlin as Petra

With Petra’s character going through so many ups and downs, from being the evil, scheming ex-wife to the vulnerable and paranoid mother, she has gone through some mad and painful times throughout the show. We feel Kalki can ace all these different emotions and still get us to connect with her. She is an artist who can ease herself into the skin of any character and play it perfectly And honestly, she can pull off grey and crazy characters like no one else in the business (Remember Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Made In Heaven?).

Anil Kapoor as Rogelio De La Vega

GUYS, WE WERE SO EXCITED FOR THIS ONE! Because honestly, Rogelio is a LEGEND in his own right, and one of our favourites from the show! While it is tough to recreate his character, we felt only one actor in Bollywood can match up to Rogelio. He is successful, Twitter-obsessed, and possesses unabashed confidence in his good looks. Doesn’t that sound exactly like the real-life Anil Kapoor? I mean, even his kids revealed on the last season of Koffee With Karan that he is absolutely self-obsessed and often praises himself in front of the mirror. We’re sure Kapoor Sr. will ace this one!

Chitrangda Singh as Xiomara

Xiomara’s character, who became a mother at a very young age, is played to the T by the super sexy Andrea Navedo. This absolutely hot mommy to the 20-something Jane is more of a friend to her and the two share a great bond. After being pretty confused between Tisca Chopra and Lilette Dubey for a while, we finally zeroed down on Chitrangda to play the sexy mama. Just look at their photos! We can totally picture Chitrangda as Jane’s young and stunning mother.

Alba (Ivonne Coll) in a still from Jane the Virgin, Navneet Nishan in a still from My Name Is Khan

Alba Villanueva is one grandma and mom who can be strict and controlling, but also fun and cool when she needs to be! Navneet Nishan for one, looks so much like Alba with that haircut! And second, she can be a cute grandma who will just be as blunt and honest as loving! Even though Navneet isn’t that old to be playing a grandma, we felt like she could pull it off and do justice to the role.

Angira Dhar as Louisa

We just couldn’t help but add Loiusa’s character in the list because we found an almost perfect identical twin for her, too, like Rafael. Angira Dhar – of Love Per Square Foot fame – looks a lot like Louisa, guys! And we can totally see her playing the slightly unstable and troubled doctor sister to Rafael in the series.

These are the people we thought would fit the roles best! Think you know of someone better? Let us know!
