A number of people out there look up to the celebrities, especially film stars. Some fans worship the celebs so much that they want to be just like them. So everything that their favourite star does has an impact on them. South actress, Sai Pallavi recently did something that made us extremely proud of her.

It might be 2019, but we all know that there are still so many people who are obsessed with fair skin. From television commercials to print ads, we come across way too many fairness cream ads on a daily basis. Sai Pallavi was offered a Rs. 2 crore fairness cream advertisement, reportedly, but she turned down the offer.

In an interview with Behindwoods, she spoke about her choice to not endorse such a product which would negatively impact the youth.

She said:

This is Indian colour. We can’t go to foreigners and ask them why they’re white. We can’t look at them and think we want that. That’s their skin colour and this is ours. Africans have their own colour too and they are beautiful.

She added:

What will I do with the money I get from such an ad? I’ll go home and eat three chapatis or rice, go around in my car. I don’t have other big needs. I see if I can contribute to the happiness of people around me or if I can say that these standards we see are wrong.

In the interview, she also shared how she has tricked Pooja, her sister, several times, who had a complex because she wasn’t as fair as Sai Pallavi. When they used to stand in front of a mirror, Pooja would look at her face and then at her sister’s. So Pallavi once told her that if she wanted to become fair, she should eat fruits and vegetables. Despite not liking them she still ate them because she wanted to be fair. “I felt very bad about that, the impact it had on a girl five years younger than me,” Pallavi shared.

‘Embrace yourself however you are,’ we’ve often heard people say this or read this in multiples articles, haven’t we? It’s time we actually follow it. You’re beautiful just the way you are! More power to you, Sai Pallavi! And thank you for saying these things.
