In this age of new launches and updates that come in at the same rate of Game Of Thrones fans’ complaints about Season 8’s writing, no one would blame you if you find it hard to keep track on what’s the latest at any given point. But precisely because of there being such a flood in the market, innovation becomes the heartbeat that keeps a tech (read: mobile technology) company going. And last week, Team MissMalini witnessed first-hand, the wonder of seeing innovation come to life. I’m talking about the new OPPO Reno 10x Zoom launch that happened in the capital yesterday.

OPPO has been in India since 2014, and to celebrate their sixth year, they decided to revolutionise the smartphone market with this launch. But hey, before you think that I’m making these claims lightly, let’s get into it, shall we?

What does Reno stand for?

OPPO is persistent in their pursuit of innovative technology and after the successful launch of #OPPOReno in Europe, they were ready for us in India. For us here, and the world over OPPO has carved a niche for itself in selfie camera technology and continuously evolved their tech to make the front-facing camera better and better. The most recent of these advancements in the 10x Hybrid zoom that’s found in the phone that they launched on the 28th of May, 2019, the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom.

The I’m Reno campaign saw OPPO partnering with many artists around the world to unleash the creative potential of their users. Reno, as explained by OPPO CMO, Will Yang, doesn’t have a distinct definition and it isn’t an acronym for anything either. Just like the artist installations are open to interpretation, so is the meaning of Reno. With Reno, OPPO promises to work with its consumers to help them be as creative as they want to be using innovative technology to help them leave their mark on the world. And as people from a creative first company, I think that idea is pretty darn spectacular, don’t you?

OPPO has reinforced its commitment to putting its consumer’s needs at the forefront by doing one big thing. OPPO Reno has introduced a new brand identity that includes if you can believe it, a custom typeface that they specially designed for themselves, called OPPO Sans. How cool is that?

The Features

Camera

This new phone has a triple rear camera which supports 10x Hybrid Zoom technology and has the world’s first periscope telephoto lens. Also, it’s front camera has a “shark-fin” rising camera which takes 0.8 seconds to rise when you turn the camera to selfie mode giving solid Jaws feels. Now, if you’re wondering what we mean by “triple rear camera” it basically comprises of a telephoto lens, a 120-degree ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 48MP main camera. This means that with all the three lenses working together, the 10x Hybrid Zoom technology, almost mimicking the quality of a professional DSLR camera.

But hey, what about keeping images stable while we zoom, amirite? Another all-too-real problem that OPPO has solved for! Introducing dual Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) on both the main camera and the telephoto lens to achieve higher, anti-shake accuracy. So goodbye shakiness, hello clarity!

The camera also has what OPPO calls the Ultra Night Mode 2.0, which basically implies that the camera has an improved light-sensing capability and produces brighter and clearer images and even gets the skin tone right. It also has Dazzle Mode that makes the photograph even more realistic in terms of light and colour play.

What’s more is that the phone has a Portrait Mode 2.0, along with 5 artistic style effects, helping users shoot highly optimized magazine-level portraits.

But for us, by far the most exciting thing was looking at the magical shark fin rising camera! OPPO says that even if you use your front camera 100 times a day it’ll still last you 5 years of usage without any trouble and it comes with the ability to sense when it is in free-fall and automatically retracts. (Is it just me or do you guys also feel like technology is going to overtake us in a couple of years?)

Another really needed design feature is that the rear camera is hidden under the back cover and features O-Dot, which gently lifts the camera lens when the phone is placed on a flat surface to protect the camera.

The #OPPOReno is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor which makes for a smooth gaming experience with AR games like PUBG really gaining popularity throughout the world. This means absolutely no glitches when you’re gaming or ISecondly, the phone supports VOOC 3.0 flash charge and is backed by a massive 4065 mAh battery. Now, most of you who are connected to your phone at all points of time will agree that battery power and charging are a huge concern when it comes to your phone and OPPO zoomed into trying to solve exactly that problem.

Sound

The OPPO Reno 10x Zoom doesn’t forget the importance of sound. It has Audio Focus technology that records surrounding sounds using multiple microphones from the phone. This obviously ensures a more precise and real sound and matching it perfectly with the visuals. Imagine recording a video and managing to capture sound that is not scratchy or tinny sounding but sounds like the real thing? Amazing! Plus, it also has Dolby Atmos sound, which basically makes it a portable movie theatre.
