Sneakers are such a wardrobe staple that it’s difficult to imagine life without them. They’re the epitome of trend+comfort! So much so that people are pairing them with everything, and yes, I mean EVERYTHING! From shorts and dresses to wedding lehengas and everything in between—there’s nothing that sneakers can’t be worn with. So, when adidas, one of the global front-runners in sports and street culture, invited us to celebrate their 21 years of running (pun unintended) the sneaker game in the city, things were bound to get exciting!
The What, The Where and The Who
When the evening rolled in, we found ourselves at the adidas store on Linking Road in Bandra, skimming through a wall of some very interesting sneaker trivia (Did you know, Tennis star Stan Smith, after whom the classic adidas shoe is named, visited the store on his first ever visit to India?). The recently revamped store has dedicated an entire floor to a collection of shoes and sportswear for women, which is where we headed to.
The event kicked off (again, pun unintended) with a chat with our very own #GirlBoss Malini Agarwal. She talked of her love for sneakers, adidas and Malini’s Girl Tribe. One of the best parts was to have members of the Tribe join us and participate in the celebration too.
Quiz Time
The biggest kick (pun unintended, I swear) we got out of the event was participating in the sneaker trivia quiz. Everyone downloaded the app Kahoot to play what quickly turned into an intense 21-question competition. The questions were read on a big screen, and answers were immediately keyed into our phones. Needless to say, the fastest of the lot won. Our collective knowledge of sneakers was impressive, to say the least!
In Case You Missed It
In a run-up to the event, adidas ran a photography contest. The brief was ‘Mumbai and Three Stripes’. It was wonderful to see the stunning shots that people created with their understanding of the theme.
In another corner of the women’s floor, where the event was being held, was a Paris-esque wall of little cards and locks. As part of their ‘The Wall Of Wishes’ endeavour, adidas would attempt to bring into being any wish you make (I’m not making this up!) Of course, when I got to know this, I picked a card right away, mentioned that my old sneakers were falling apart (hint, hint!) and locked it away on the little wall. I’m holding on to the key, with the hope of going back to unlock it once a pair of cool sneakers make their way to my door—one can wish, no?
Moreover, for their anniversary, adidas also created a little platform, inspired straight out of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. When one stepped on to it, the entire store front was bedazzled with lights.
We’re so glad Malini’s Girl Tribe could be a part of this event as it was one we’ve never seen before. From the games to the food, the ambience and more, it was an experience we shall never forget!
