For most of us, sleeping is a way of destressing and relaxing after a long day of work, school, or everyday activities. However, for some of our favorite celebs, getting a night of shut-eye may not be as easy as we would imagine. From odd bedtime rituals to a chaotic sleeping pattern, some of the bizarre sleeping habits of celebrities may surprise us all.

Could we have been wrong all along? Do the hours you sleep and what you do before going to bed influence how successful you are in life? Well, below you can find an interesting infographic that shows some of the most ridiculous sleeping habits of celebrities and famous people and what they actually do before falling asleep. Although there is an array of sleeping habits to choose from, we’ll list the top seven while you can check out the rest for yourself.

1. Tom Cruise

It’s really no surprise that Tom Cruise would be on the list. Known as a celebrity with some rather eccentric views, he’s just as odd when it comes to sleeping. As it turns out, this actor sleeps in a sound-proof ‘snoratorium’, where he can sleep and snore in peace.

2. Eminem

Another person with a weird sleeping habit is one of the most famous rappers of our time — Eminem. He prefers to sleep in complete darkness, so he puts tin foil on windows to block the light. A thing that relaxes him and helps him sleep during touring is listening to white noise on speakers or television.

3. Stephen King

The author of The Shining cannot sleep unless he has washed his hands and brushed his teeth first. Although this might be something we all do before going to bed, Stephen has to have the open side of his pillowcase pointing towards the other side of the bed, or he won’t be able to sleep. Strange, right?

4. Michael Phelps

Michael Phelps has probably one of the most bizarre sleeping habits. Trying to push his body to produce more red blood cells and deliver oxygen to the muscles, the most decorated Olympian of all times sleeps in a chamber where the air can be compared to that of the altitude between 8,500 to 9,000 feet.

5. Mariah Carey

If people typically sleep eight to nine hours a day, then the queen of pop is nailing it. It is reported that she sleeps around 15 hours a day, and sometimes even more. If that’s not strange enough for you, how about the fact that she sleeps with about 20 humidifiers in the room? This probably feels like you’re sleeping in a steam room.

6. Tom Ford

One of the most famous American fashion designers sleeps only four hours or even less a night. It’s said that he goes to sleep at 12.30 am and wakes up at around 4.30 am. This means that he sleeps half or less of what scientists recommend.

7. Lady Gaga

The Mother Monster has also found herself on this list, with a bizarre habit that I’m sure millions of her fans would appreciate. She actually sleeps inside the egg that was part of her performance of Born This Way. She even claims to have spent three days inside it once.

So if you think sleeping with the lights on is weird, then you haven’t seen anything yet. Although many of these celebrities have a viable reason for why they have these habits, we can’t ignore the fact of how ridiculous they seem to us.
