Although many people deem primers to be overrated, I have found that using one makes a huge difference to my makeup. Since I have tried a fair share out over the past few years, I thought that I would list out my favourite formulas.

1. Benefit The POREfessional Face Primer

Large pores are something that I have to deal with. Luckily, I have this primer in my stash! The lightweight formula smoothens out my skin to provide an even base for my foundation. Every time I use it, I’m complimented on how flawless my base looks.

2. Make Up For Ever Step 1 Mattifying Primer

Isn’t combination skin the trickiest to deal with? Since my T-zone gets oily in a flash, I often turn to this mattifying formula before an important event. Not only does it keep the shine at bay for hours on end, but also makes my makeup last for that much longer. Whilst I’m a fan of this version, the brand also has 10 other primers to address a range of skin issues.

3. MAC Prep + Prime Fix+

If there was ever a cult-favourite product, it’s probably this one. Part setting spray, part primer, this soothing mist locks down makeup like a boss. What I love most about it is how it balances out my complexion by keeping my cheeks hydrated and my T-zone shine-free.  I usually save this one for outdoor weddings and carry it around to quickly refresh my makeup.

4. Smashbox Photo Finish Primer

Here is another product that will make you camera-ready! The silicone-based primer blurs out imperfections and minimises pores in just a few sweeps. The silky formula is a delight to work with and feels weightless once applied. Since it is clear in colour, it goes on invisibly on all skin tones and won’t make you look pale or ashy.

5. Stila One Step Correct

Ever since I borrowed this primer from my sister, I have been hooked. This unique serum contains 3 shades (green, lavender and peach) to colour correct skin, whilst prepping it for any further steps. I reserve this one for an emergency i.e. days when I wake up with a breakout or dark circles. Trust me when I say that it literally transforms my skin!
