These days I can’t watch a Youtube video where someone is not talking about collagen supplements. It’s added in every cup of coffee, smoothie, acai bowl and even water! This got me wondering—what the hell are collagen supplements and why is everyone so obsessed with them? So after some intense research later, I’ve gathered all the vital information you need to know, before trying out them:

What Are Collagen Supplements?

Collagen is the main structural protein in our skin and it’s found in our skin, bones, muscles, tendons and ligaments. As we get older the collagen levels in our body decrease hence causing fine lines and other signs of ageing. There are two types of collagen:

  • Endogenous: This is the natural type of collagen that can be synthesized by your body.
  • Exogenous: This type of collagen comes from an external source such as supplements. It’s mainly used for medical and cosmetic reasons.

Most of these supplements are made from the bones and tissues from animal sources like fish, pigs and cows.

Many people have praised collagen supplements and have claimed that consuming them has made their skin better. Here are some of the skincare benefits you might experience:
