Being a girl with curly hair is no cakewalk. We have to plan our entire social schedule according to our hair wash days. Did you want to catch up and get a cup of coffee? Sorry, you should’ve given us a one week notice period. If you have curly hair like I do, then you’ll understand the struggle of battling frizz and trying to keep your curls intact. There’s a very thin line between effortlessly coiled curls and your hair looking like a bird’s nest. Your hair may look gorgeous with a nice amount curl definition on the first day after you wash your hair. However, your hair may look like a hot mess the next morning after you’ve gotten a good nights sleep. Tossing and turning at night can damage your hair and also cause frizz and knots. Fortunately, these three simple and quick tricks can help you maintain and preserve your curls till your next hair wash:

1. Silk Pillowcase:

It may sound extra AF but trust me sleeping on a silk pillowcase can transform your hair. When you toss and turn in your sleep, there’s a lot of friction created between your hair and your pillow. If you sleep on a cotton pillow it can cause a lot of frizz and knots. Hence, you’ll have to vigorously brush your hair the next morning and your curls will vanish. If you sleep on a silk pillowcase, there will be lesser friction between your hair and the pillowcase. Hence, as a result, you’ll have less frizz the next morning and your curls will be intact.

2. The Pineapple:

Don’t let the name confuse you, the ‘pineapple’ is a super easy and quick hairstyle that can save your curls from being squashed in your sleep. All you have to do is gather your hair and bring it towards the crown of your head. Once you’ve got your hair at the crown of your head secure it with a hair tie and you’re done. This will allow you to sleep comfortably without ruining your curls.

3. Pigtail Braids:

Go old school and put your hair into two braids before you go to sleep. What this will do is keep the ends of your hair, secured in a braid so that they don’t become a victim of friction. An added bonus to this step is that you’ll wake up to the most effortless beachy waves and your curls will be perfectly preserved.
