Amitabh Bachchan is no doubt one of the biggest superstars in our country and was hailed the angry young man during his younger days. But, he is no stranger to health concerns. His major accident during the shoot of Coolie was a near-death experience, and he has also suffered from illnesses like Myasthenia Gravis and Hepatitis B. But, being the superhero he is, he has braved it all with such determination and grit. He now makes sure to educate people about it and is part of many health programs and campaigns.

While speaking at the launch of Swasth Bharat for NDTV, the veteran actor shared the state of his health, and how due to a bad blood infusion, 75% of his liver has been damaged.

Here’s what he said:

I keep quoting my personal example all the time and try and propagate the idea of getting yourself detected and I don’t mind saying this publicly I am a tuberculosis survivor, Hepatitis B survivor… Bad blood infusion went in and 75 percent of my liver is gone but because I was able to detect it even after a period of 20 years, when 75 percent of my liver is gone… I am still surviving on 25 percent.

About his tuberculosis, he said that he had been suffering from it for 8 years before they could finally detect it. Speaking about it here’s what he said:

Then there is a cure. Even with Tuberculosis… I did not know for almost 8 years I was suffering from Tuberculosis. I keep saying that with immodesty if it can happen to me (it can happen) to anyone. Therefore if you are not willing to get yourself tested then you would never find out and there’s never going to be a cure for it

Now, that is some very wise advice. Our health certainly is our wealth and we have got to keep a check on it. We are glad Amit Ji is doing well, now.

On the work front, Mr Bachchan is currently shotting for this year’s season of Kaun Banega Crorepati.
