When MissMalini asked me what I thought of Ranbir Kapoor’s very dapper airport outfit, gotta say, I fell down a rabbit hole. From scrutinising over that photo set I moved on to other airport photos of Ranbir, and then on to Rahul Bose’s, and from his to Akshay Kumar’s, and then to Saif Ali Khan’s and so on. Yeah, I can be neurotic like that at times. And then I thought why not blog about my observations – and justify the hours wasted as research? SO, here it is, the airport style of the Bollywood menfolk – the good, the bad, the ugly :-)
Let’s start with the ugly, and heading this section is Saif Ali Khan. No one turns up at airports as calamitously clothed as him.
Pointy leather boots with tracksuit bottoms, really? Who would’ve thunk it that the nawab of Pataudi would be partial to dressing like chavs?
Travelling in tracksuit bottoms is a complete no-no, regardless of gender. You. Just. Cannot. More so, when it’s paired with flip-flops. I’m so making tracksuits illegal in airports when I become the aviation minister.
Hrithik Roshan’s airport style is plain sloppy. His jeans are always so ill-fitting, and then there’s his footwear… Always ready for a sprint he is. Even when out partying.
John Abraham & his trusty flip-flops *sigh* It makes me cringe.
I’m certain many will throw sheep at me for putting Imran Khan in this section! His airport outfits, and off it, are just so age-inappropriate. He’s in his 20s and with a face that looks younger than his years, so why dress like you’re in your 40s? Although nice, there’s nothing effortless about his style. It all looks so contrived, case in point being the white blazer look, where he stuck in a pocket square in a shade similar to his trousers. C’mon, you’re young only once, loosen up, dress up in something fun and laid-back like…
…Ranbir & Shahid Kapoor! I totally love these two’s airport style, particularly Ranbir’s. They dress their age, and look so cool, and comfortable, and effortless, while at it. And Ranbir’s jeans… they fit him ever so well!
Getting back to his dapper ensemble, all of it was very nicely done except for the belt – such a shame. The suit, in faint Prince of Wales check, is very du jour. The shoes were noice, and same for the pocket square. But the belt, although nice, was too slim for the loops on his trousers.
Now you can ask why I put Akshay Kumar and Shah Rukh Khan in this section, when they, like Imran, do not dress their age? ‘Cos they wear them clobbers with swag, and look so comfortable in them. And in case of SRK, he wears some bloomin’ cool trainers. Yeah, good shoes will get you far with me ;-)
And then there were these two. As elegant as Zinedine Zidane’s Marseille turns; as classy as Wasim Akram’s swingers.
SO, who’s airport style you like best? We’d love to hear :-)
