‘Paraben-free’ is a term that’s widely used in the beauty space… But what does ‘paraben’ really mean? I did a bunch of research and found these key elements of the ingredient. Up until a few years ago, people used bar soaps to wash their face and used cold creams as moisturisers, and called it a “skincare routine”. Now, however, there is a plethora of skincare products out there that have different formulations, ingredients, and some of them are even customised particularly for your skin type. Although, you may remember the phrase “Every rose has its thorns” and I have to say that it’s applicable in this situation too. Even though there are a ton of skincare products in the market today, it doesn’t mean they’re all beneficial for your skin. Most of these products contain the debatable and controversial ingredient—parabens.
Parabens are a popular skincare ingredient or rather a preservative, that are added to cosmetic and personal care products. If you’re wondering what makes your skincare products have such a long shelf life, then you should know that the answer is probably parabens. Chemists add parabens to cosmetic and personal care products to prolong the shelf life of the product and to prevent the growth of bacteria and mould. Here’s where the controversial bit comes in. Many people believe that if parabens are used cautiously and in small quantities, then it is safe to use. However, there’s a second school of thought that believes that using products with parabens can cause hormone disruption and serious diseases. If you ask me, I think it’s best to stay away from products that contain parabens, because you can’t take risks with something as important as your skin amirite? So, if you’re looking for skincare products that won’t harm your skin, here are 5 paraben-free face washes you should try:
IMHO sticking to products that are formulated with natural ingredients is always better. That’s why this paraben-free face wash from Forest Essentials is one of my favourites. It’s formulated with neem which clears your skin and with Kashmiri saffron that makes it glow. So, no matter what’s your skin type, this gentle yet effective cleanser will do wonder for your skin.
No matter how old you are, you can’t deny the fact that sweet-scented skincare products are the bomb. If fruity products are your thing, then you’ll love this paraben-free face wash. It’s formulated with mango seed leaves and it leaves your skin feeling clean and smooth. What makes it even better is the fact that it’s formulated without any parabens, talc, mineral oil and animal-sourced ingredients. Talk about being an over-achiever, amirite?
Do ever avoid washing your face because your face feels dry and taut later? When it comes to this paraben-free face wash you won’t have to worry about that! It cleanses your face, removes dirt and grime and does this without stripping the natural oils off your skin. So, if you have dry or combination skin, then this cleanser is made for you.
I have nothing but praises for the green tea range from Plum. Just within a week of using this face wash, I could notice a difference. Since it contains green tea extract and glycolic acid, it works wonders for acne-prone skin. If you want to control your breakouts and reduce pigmentation, then you should give this paraben-free cleanser a try.
People with sensitive skin, meet your new holy-grail product. This gentle and soothing aloe face wash will remove dirt and grime from your face without stripping your skin off its natural oils. It’s free from alcohol, preservatives, and of course parabens.
