Kareena Kapoor Khan has always been one to speak her mind when it comes to issues like pay parity and equal representation in the industry. With a career spanning so many years, she sure has reached a certain level in her career where she can demand what she deserves. This is one discussion that has been a constant in almost all interviews and talks with both actors and actresses. It wasn’t any different when Karan Johar sat to talk to Kareena and Alia Bhatt.

The two actresses were in conversation with Karan at the Jio MAMI Movie Mela With Star. When asked about pay parity and all the conversation around it. According to a report on PTI, Kareena said that there has never been a situation where she has walked out of a film because she was getting paid less. But then, she did go on to say that she would like it if she was paid as much as her male-co-stars at times.

When Karan asked her if she is getting paid as much as Akshay Kumar in her next film, Good Newwz, Kareena said that if he was paying her as much as he is paying Akshay, she would run out of the MAMI event. Hinting thus, that she isn’t paid as much her male co-star in the film.

Giving this a producer’s point of view, as well as a friend, Karan also said:

I feel there’s a larger understanding of the budget versus the verticals that you sell on digital and satellite that are driven by different data. So, it’s very subjective and cannot be just put into one strong slot. While I’m all about equality, when it comes to love and paying people, but there are larger optics to look at where we have to.

Well, that is also not completely dismissable. But, as Kareena says, we all would like a time when female stars enjoy as much of a salary as their male counterparts.
