‘That Was Cool’ – Tanushree Dutta On Amitabh Bachchan Calling Her Brave

Tanushree Dutta

Tanushree Dutta is sort of responsible for pioneering the #MeToo movement in India. She made headlines when she opened up about being harassed by a prominent Bollywood actor, which subsequently empowered other women to share their stories; and thereby brought about a much needed revolution in the country’s fight for feminism.

It’s commendable that Tanushree was able to touch so many people with her message and further pave the way for the movement to spread. Her efforts were clearly recognised on a larger scale too, as in a recent episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati, Amitabh Bachchan also called her out for her bravery.

It reportedly happened when a contestant on the game show was asked to identify the voice of the actress/beauty queen who triggered India’s #MeToo movement last year. In the audio that was played thereafter, the voice spoke about sexual harassment at workplace. The contestant instantly recognised Tanushree’s voice out of the four options given; and added that she was very brave, to which Big B replied, “Yes, very very brave”.

Wow, validation from Amit ji definitely means a lot. The actress was recently contacted by SpotboyE about the episode and she said:

That was cool and I’m glad.

She further told the publication that she did not see the particular episode but a friend of hers sent the clip which mentioned her.

I am happy that my voice was put on such a big show. I was surprised that the contestant recognised my voice, normally voices of iconic singers, politicians and actors are recognised. I am happy that my voice has reached out to people and it has a recall value.

Tanushree’s voice indeed helped the movement to gain momentum in India. We hope it doesn’t go unnoticed. More power to you, girl!
