Comedy is a genre that is not everyone’s cup of tea. We have seen some do it effortlessly, with the perfect timing, while others seem like they are trying too hard. Anees Bazmee is one director who has given us some rather funny and blockbuster entertainers like Welcome and No Entry over the years, and is now back with another bone-tickling entertainer with Pagalpanti. Over the years, with all the experience he has, I am sure he can make out who is a natural in the comedy space, and seems like he thinks actress Ileana D’Cruz is a ‘One take artist‘.
Speaking to us exclusively, the Pagalpanti pair — John Abraham and Ileana — spoke about what goes into making a comedy. When asked if it is a difficult genre to crack, both of them agree it is, to some extent, and that it all comes down to the writing and the comic timing. And when it comes to jokes, they are bound to come out organically in the first take.
So, when asked about how many takes they took to get a scene right, John says:
I think Anees bhai posted something for Ileana (on Instagram) saying “My only one take artist.” And that speaks a lot about the spontaneity of what she did and the rest of the cast did. You’re right, the first take is always very organic and I think we got most of our stuff in two takes or at the most three takes. Not many retakes use to happen.
