When the trailer of Panipat came out, I was definitely bowled over by the grandeur and the amazing star cast of the film. Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, this film starring Arjun Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Kriti Sanon along with Zeenat Aman, Mohnish Bahl and Padmini Kolhapure looked like a promising one. But, one thing that struck us all was its similarity to Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s Bajirao Mastani in terms of its setting and characters.
Kriti was one to experience this ‘comparison’ the most, with her character, Parvatibai being compared to Priyanka Chopra‘s character in Bajirao, Kashibai. With the look of the characters being very similar, and from similar times, there were bound to be similarities.
According to a report in Mid-Day, Kriti said:
I was expecting comparisons when I signed the film. Padmaavat too was compared to Baahubali. The period of Panipat and Bajirao is similar. The setting is similar because the Peshwas lived in Shaniwar Wada, and they dressed in a certain way. But the characters are different.
She also spoke about how she bonded with PC while she was at a party recently. She joked that “they were trying to figure the exact relation between Kashibai and Parvatibai.” She also said that PC loved her video where she was dancing to the song Coca Cola while in her Parvatibai avatar in her vanity van.
Kriti added:
It reminded Priyanka of herself because whenever she would be off the set, she was no longer Kashibai. She would slip into her character again when she was on the set. We had a fun, informal conversation.

Panipat is a historical war drama and is based on the third battle of Panipat. It is slated to release on December 6.
