Farah Khan today, is still talked about for being the one who choreographed the iconic Chaiyya Chaiyya from the Mani Ratnam film, Dil Se. Not only her, it gave Shah Rukh Khan and Malaika Arora also the most iconic song of their careers. Malaika also rose to fame after being appreciated for her dance moves ontop a train in the song.
At the recently held International Film Festival of India (IIFI), Farah revealed that they had actually approached some big names like Shilpa Shetty and Raveena Tandon at that time for the song, but they turned it down. Can you believe that Chaiyaa Chaiyaa could have started one of those two top actresses at that time?
Here’s what Farah said:
We had approached Shilpa to Raveena, a lot of actors but no one did it. Malaika did the song and became a star after that.
She sure did, and we wouldn’t imagine the song without her!
While she has made almost the whole of the industry dance to her tunes (remember Deewangi Deewangi from Om Shanti Om?), Farah still dreams of choreographing one celebrity, and that is Tom Cruise. Another person she wanted to rope in for the Deewangi song, but couldn’t, was Aamir Khan. She says that she wanted all the three big Khan’s – Shah Rukh, Salman Khan and Aamir – in one frame, but couldn’t get it.
I wanted one shot to have the three Khans together. Aamir drove me crazy for ten days. He couldn’t make it because he was editing Taare Zameen Par. Later, four years after, he told me he didn’t want to do the song.
Oh! Wonder why he would not have wanted to be a part of the song. Anyway, we enjoyed it and we love Farah for always creating some iconic moments in our industry.
On the work front, Farah is all set to team up with director Rohit Shetty to make the remake of the Amitabh Bachchan-Hema Malini starrer, Satte Pe Satta.
