‘I Wanted To Remain Loyal To My Story’ – Arjun Kapoors On Taking Tips From Ranveer Singh For Panipat

Arjun Kapoor and Kriti Sanon will soon be seen in Ashutosh Gowarikar‘s magnum opus, Panipat where they play Sadashiv Rao Bhau and Parvati Bai respectively. The film is set in the Peshwa dynasty and therefore, inevitable comparisons with Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s Bajirao Mastani were bound to arise.

While signing the film, the lead actors were well aware that both the films will be deemed alike because they are set in the same period, which entails similar dialect, costumes, storyline etc. Kriti recently set the record straight and said that her character is quite different from Priyanka Chopra‘s Kashi Bai from Bajirao Mastani; the only similarity being that both were Peshwa wives.

When Mid-Day asked Arjun if he took tips from his BFF Ranveer Singh for portraying Sadashiv Bhau, his response was articulate enough to put an end to all comparisons.

Here’s what he said:

Ashu sir and Sanjay sir make magnum opuses, but they have different temperaments. Here, I respected my director’s temperament. I wanted to remain loyal to my story. Ranveer would have given me his point of view which would be from Sanjay sir’s understanding. I have tremendous respect for Ranveer’s work. But this film didn’t require me to seek help as Bajirao and Sadashiv are from different eras.

Fair enough! I love how Arjun has responded to the similarities with such clarity and a very mature point of view. We are looking forward to watching him kick a punch in Panipat. Good luck to our most wanted munda!
