Hindi cinema may not be the best in world at the moment, but we are slowly getting there. Over the past few years, Bollywood has seen a pool of talent who have adequately contributed in putting the film industry on the map. In 2020, we are definitely hoping to see more of these talented faces in addition to new talent, of course.

Here are a few performances which we loved in 2019:

1. Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in Gully Boy

The film qualified for the Oscars. Need we say more?! It didn’t make the final cut but either way, it’s a big win for Zoya Akhtar‘s fabulous piece of work. Amirite?

2. Shahid Kapoor in & as Kabir Singh

The film was a blockbuster success even though it was drowned in a pool of controversy. Shahid’s performance was widely applauded and one cannot deny, he was damn good. He put across a varied range of emotions in the film, which truly exhibited his versatility as an actor. Leaving aside the controversial subject matter, we were truly impressed by Shahid’s acting chops.

3. Vicky Kaushal in URI: The Surgical Strike

Vicky was a winner since we first saw him on the celluloid. Be it Raazi or Sanju, he has proved his true mettle as an actor with each film. But URI: The Surgical Strike takes the cake for being his best film till date, and also fetching him the National Award.

4. Kangana Ranaut in Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi

5. Ayushmann Khurrana in Article 15 and Bala

Well well, we can never get enough of this Chandigarh munda, can we?! He has been at the top of his game since the beginning of his career; and hit it out of the park these last couple of years by churning out super hits such as Badhaai Ho, Dream Girl, Bala, Andhadhun, Article 15 and more.

6. Priyanka Chopra in The Sky Is Pink

Priyanka is a timeless actor. She can play a mother of two and also slay as a businesswoman in Baywatch. Talk about variety, huh?! With The Sky Is Pink, PeeCee gave us one of the most memorable performances of her career and definitely left us wanting to see more of her in 2020.

7. Rani Mukherji in Mardaani 2

After the birth of her daughter, Adira, Rani made sure to choose quality over quantity. We haven’t seen much of her in the past 5 years but with Mardaani 2, we are glad she is choosing substantial roles which make a difference to the society too.

8. Taapsee Pannu in Badla, Game Over and Saand Ki Aankh

Taapsee has really broken in on the scene and how! She has slowly yet steadily climbed up the charts with her excellent choice of films and an unmatched performance delivery. The girl is surely here to stay!

9. Bhumi Pednekar in Sonchiriya, Saand Ki Aankh and Bala

Star performer of the year, we’d say! With a plethora of films under her belt, 2019 certainly belonged to Bhumi. She is inarguably an unstoppable force to reckon with, in the coming years. You can’t argue about that, especially not with the body of work Bhumi has established in only the first four years of her film career.

10. Vidya Balan in Mission Mangal

What can we possibly say about Vidya that hasn’t been said already?! She is a powerhouse of acting and extremely sure about her craft. The best part? She knows it and that transforms pretty well on screen. Prior to its release, Mission Mangal was touted to be an Akshay Kumar film but Balan took the limelight away with her act as a learned scientist as well as a homemaker.
