Sumona Chakravarti rose to fame with her stint on The Kapil Sharma Show alongside Kapil Sharma. While she is still a part of the show, when it comes to films, Sumona was last seen in Salman Khan‘s Kick (2014). The actress, in a candid conversation with Hindustan Times spoke about how she feels she hasn’t done enough work, and how she wishes to change that.
She told the daily that in an industry like this it is very important to make your presence as an actor felt by attending parties and socialising. She says she usually heads home or visits friends after shoots and jokes that many in the industry might have forgotten she exists. Talk about escaping social situations, totally relate!
Clearing the air about any misunderstanding about her attitude towards her work, she says that people often think she is arrogant and might demand a lot of money, but she explains that as an actor, it is her duty to negotiate and demand the fee she deserves for a good project.
She adds:
My PR skills definitely aren’t up to the mark. I realised that quite late… Now, I’m trying to better my approach, meeting people, even calling and messaging them; literally asking for work, and there is no shame in that.
She says that she was earlier under the impression that one just needs to prove themselves with their work and rest will fall in place. But that clearly, just working hard isn’t enough. Well, that’s so true, isn’t it?
She also says that she doesn’t mind being a part of ensemble casts and doesn’t believe in the hero-heroine concept exists anymore.
She explains:
Of course, if I get one of the lead parts, I’d love to do it but then if I’m offered a character essential to the plot, I’d take that, too. It can’t be like if you remove the character the story still progresses, there needs to be some significance. I would love to explore romance or dark stories and find a psycho character or a police/intelligence officer characters fascinating.
