Janhvi Kapoor entered the Bollywood scene in 2018 when she made her debut with Dhadak, opposite Ishaan Khatter. Ever since, she has gained an enviable number of fans, some noteworthy brand endorsements and also got a digital release with Netflix’s Ghost Stories.

She has a few more films under her belt, including the sequel to Dostana and before that, the biopic on Indian Air Force pilot, Gunjan Saxena. Janhvi signed the latter before the release of her debut film and recently admitted that she lacked self-belief when she initially started her career.

In a tête-à-tête with Rajeev Masand, she said:

Dhadak hadn’t released when I signed Gunjan Saxena. We spent a lot of time in the prep of the film. So I’ve seen the script through every stage. I’ve spent so much time with Gunjan ma’am and her family. To be honest, when I started the film, I lacked a lot of self-belief. My self esteem was low. I was questioning if I was capable of even being in this industry. Through this story, to see Gunjan ma’am’s journey and her belief in herself and how she triumphed and survived and just put her head down and just kept working – all of it made me believe in myself in a large way.

That’s the spirit, gurrl! Keep it going!
