I know what you’re thinking—“Working out is such a task on its own, now I’m supposed to put in extra efforts and follow a skincare routine too???” At least that’s what I thought when I found out that I have to follow a specific skincare routine after working out. Fortunately, there aren’t many steps in this routine. The main focus is to make sure that your skin is thoroughly cleansed pre and post your workout. So without any further ado, here’s what you should do:

Pre-Workout Skincare Routine:

When you work out with makeup on, it can clog your pores and lead to breakouts. So, before you workout, your skincare routine should primarily consist of cleansing.

1. Double-Cleanse

Double-cleansing is a great way to remove both oil-based and water-based impurities from your skin. Hence, double-cleansing will make sure that your skin is squeaky clean. If you want to know more about it, you can find more information here.

Optional: You can follow up on the cleansing step by using a light moisturiser.

Post-Workout Skincare Routine:

Here’s when you have to be very careful if you don’t immediately get out of your sweaty clothes, your skin can get irritated, and you’re putting your skin at the risk of breakouts. So, besides getting out of your sweaty gym gear, here’s what you need to do:

1. Cleanse Your Skin ASAP

While working out is great for you, sweating is not the best thing for your skin. When you workout, bacteria and oils accumulate on your skin, which makes your skin more prone to breakouts. So as soon as you’re done working out, use a gentle face wash to cleanse your face. Using makeup removing wipes does not count as cleansing your face!

2. Don’t Neglect The Rest Of Your Skin

Besides your face, the rest of your skin will also be prone to acne (especially if you wear tight sweaty clothing for a long time). So hop into the shower after you’re done working out, ASAP!

3. Hydrate And Moisturise

After a sweaty gym session and a steamy shower, your skin tends to lose hydration, so it is essential to use a moisturiser. After you’re done cleansing your face and showering, use your usual moisturiser and body lotion, and you’re good to go!
