If you’re someone who knows me well you’ll know that I don’t think very highly of DIY skincare. It’s tedious and you can find products that have been formulated by professionals in stores instead. However, if I had to pick an ingredient that super popular when it comes to DIY skincare it would be honey. This miraculous amber liquid has been used for centuries by many civilisations because of it’s healing properties. I’ve always been a fan of honey when it comes to skincare. However, when I heard that there’s a type of honey with even more benefits I was super intrigued. I’m talking about none other manuka, honey! Here’s what you need to know about this wonderful ingredient:

What Is It?

Manuka honey is originally from New Zealand. It’s made by the bees that feed on the manuka shrub that’s found in New Zealand. What makes it so much more beneficial than regular honey is that it is not processed. Since manuka honey is not processed (pasteurised or heated) it has a thick consistency and more therapeutic benefits.

What Are Its Benefits?

If you’re thinking about giving manuka honey a try, then here are a few of its benefits that will convince you to try it:

  • It’s packed with vitamin B, C and live enzymes which are beneficial to the skin.
  • Since it has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, it’s great for healing acne and fading blemishes.
  • It is a natural humectant, which means that it will help your skin become a moisture magnet.
  • It’s gentle and soothing so it is also ideal for sensitive skin.

How Can You Use It?

You can use it as a face mask or you can even use it to cleanse your face. Take a spoonful of manuka honey in your palms and rub it on your face for 5 to 10 minutes. Then wash it off with lukewarm water and you’ll have baby-soft skin!
