A perpetual and super frustrating problem in my life is dealing with dry and chapped lips. For those of you who don’t know me, I’m that girl who has a lip balm stashed away in every one of her purses, drawers and rooms. (Yes, I even have a lip balm in the glove compartment in my car). Sometimes I feel like no matter how much lip balm I use, my lips will still stay chronically dry. This was until a friend suggested that I try exfoliating my lips. Many of us tend to neglect to exfoliate our lips, and that results in build of dead skin cells, and that doesn’t allow your lip balm to work properly. So if you want to exfoliate your lips, here are some DIY recipes that’ll help soothe and heal dry lips:

1. Honey + Brown Sugar Scrub

Honey works wonders at moisturising your skin since it is a humectant, so it helps your skin attract moisture. Brown sugar breaks down when it comes in touch with water so it won’t be too harsh on your lips when you use it for exfoliation. Here’s what you’ll need to make this DIY scrub to banish dry and chapped lips:

  • 1 tsp of honey
  • 1 tsp of brown sugar

2. Almond Oil + Cinnamon Powder

Almond oil has excellent moisturising properties, and when you pair it with a physical exfoliant like cinnamon powder, you’ve got yourself a great DIY scrub to tackle dry lips. Plus a bonus to this scrub is that the cinnamon powder will help plump your lips just a little bit. Here’s what you’ll need to make this scrub:

  • 1 tsp of almond oil
  • 2-3 pinches of cinnamon powder

3. Petroleum Jelly + Toothbrush

This method is not technically a scrub, but it’s a quick fix to deal with dry lips. Just apply a layer of petroleum jelly to your chapped lips, let it sit for a while and then gently scrub your lips with a clean toothbrush.
