In recent times, Mohit Suri‘s Malang — starring Aditya Roy Kapur, Disha Patani, Anil Kapoor and Kunal Kemmu in the lead roles — has turned out to be one film that has gone on to do some great numbers in the box office, as well as earning critical acclaim for being an entertaining watch! Ask Mohit about how he feels post the great response to the film, and he says it is more of a relief than anything else. He recently chatted with us about the experience of making the film and his plans for a sequel.

His collaboration with Aditya has always been such a hit, from Aashiqui 2 and now Malang. About whether he always had him in mind during the scripting stage, he says he first went to Aditya for a super quick narration during an IIFA Awards.

He further adds:

After the conversation, his manager asked him if he understood anything and he said no. But he said it’s Mohit, I have to do it. That’s how he got on board. And it was great! We were the ones who took our writer out to Goa to show him where the rave parties happen, spent time with the hippies and backpackers, and he really was super excited for the film. I feel Adi has grown compared to his Aashiqui days. He has seen his ups and downs in his life. Now he knows his strengths as an actor and the path he wants to set on very clearly. I feel the character’s journey in the film is very similar to his own, he has grown from a hippie to a hero! I think that’s why I could see him fit the role, as an action hero when no one would have otherwise.

Fans are already excited for the second instalment of the film, and while Mohit is also thinking about it, he says he needs more time. He says, “I need to discuss the idea for the Malang sequel with Luv Ranjan. I still don’t have a very solid story, so I want to make sure I have it. Because I have done sequels in the past like Murder and Aadhiqui and the expectations can be quite high the second time around. The film should be a good script by itself. Luv is currently busy with his next directorial with Ranbir and Shraddha. But I will definitely take the story to him.

Mohit’s next project is also going to be a sequel to his film Ek Villian. While John Abraham and Aditya all set to play the lead roles, the female leads of the film are yet to be finalised. The film will go on floors this June.

We can’t wait for that one, and are so excited to know more about the Malang sequel already!
