When you realise that two of the most popular stars in the industry today — Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn — debuted in films in the same year, it is quite some trivia already. Now, add to that some additional trivia that we just got straight from the horse’s mouth, it gets even more interesting!
Ajay and Akshay were recently spotted together at the trailer launch of Akshay’s upcoming film, Sooryavanshi. Given the film is a part of the Rohit Shetty cop universe, his other cop heroes — Simmba Ranveer Singh and Singham Ajay — were also present to support the film along with Rohit Shetty and Katrina Kaif. During the press interactions, Akshay joked about how he was the first choice for the 1991 film, Phool Aur Kaante, that eventually went to Ajay.
He said:
Hum dono ne apna career saath mein hi shuru kiya tha. Aisa shuru kiya tha ki ek hi film ke liye dono lade the. Pehli film jo humari thi, Phool Aur Kaante, jisme pehle main tha phir mujhe dhakka maar ke isne liya (We both started our careers together. We started out in such a way that we fought for the same film. I was originally cast in Phool Aur Kaante but he pushed me out and got the film for himself).
Now this is some trivia, right? Akshay then went ahead to do Saugandh in the same year and the two actors have gone on to star in other films like Suhaag, Khakhee and Insaan together.
