The Coronavirus situation has proven to be devastating across countries. Every day we hear negative news about the virus and its effects. And it is what to expect in times of a crisis. But while we are all quite aware of the negative effects, there’s another unexpected side effect we should know of—the positive side effects.

To minimise the spread of COVID-19, a lot of serious measures have been taken—like nationwide lockdowns. We’re seeing lesser traffic, stop on clothing production and social distancing. Read on to find out more such positive side effects.

1. Environment & Climate

Research has shown that due to the closing down of factories in China for 2 months, the sky there has almost become completely clear again. There has been a significant decrease in the amount of nitrogen dioxide pollution in China over the past 2 months. Venice canals, that are rather flooded with tourists, are now clear and welcoming quite some birds. There have also been dramatic falls in pollution levels in some of the major cities around the world.

2. Decreased Consumption Of Goods

As a result of the lockdowns, we’re all working from home. This means, we also travel less, print lesser pages, use lesser plastic and even shop much lesser. Also, a lot of us have started making more conscious choices when it comes to what we consume. We’re not buying unnecessary things anymore and adding more waste.

3. Time To Think & Reflect

Now that we’re locked inside our houses and have nowhere to go, it has given us a lot of free time to think. Think about our actions, choices and how we can take a lesson from this and mend our behaviour. We have more time to read, fact-check, spread awareness and literally do things we always wanted to but never found the time for.

Let’s try and remember the positive things too at such times. We know a lot of people, including ourselves, often panic or get more anxious. It is important to make sure you take care of your mental and emotional health as well. Because, it is good to be well-informed but can be really harmful if you panic or stress too much over it.
