When there is a cocktail party or a black-tie event to attend, the first outfit idea that comes to our mind is a cocktail dress or a gown, we may even venture down the desi route and ponder over the idea of wearing a saree. Statement pants, however, are always a no-go, simply because they are deemed too casual.
Fashion in 2020 is all about breaking the rules, stereotypes and norms, pants that are said to be reserved for the board rooms only, are now being taken to red carpet events and parties. In no mood to shave your legs, to wear that mini skirt? Well, if styled right, pants can look just as sexy and stylish. Wide-leg pants have magical leg-lengthening capabilities and an all-around dreamy, swishy feel, much like a maxi dress or a gown.
One glance at this Peter Dundas pantsuit on Sonam Kapoor, and it was love at first sight. The intricate embroidery on the blazer, that went down to the flared pants, made the look more elegant, than any big bouffant gown. The statement jewellery from Bulgari was just the polished finishing touch this look needed.
Shraddha Kapoor found refuge in a pair of glossy, statement-making vinyl pants with a matching bandeau top by Deme. Cinched, ti- bottom trousers, like the ones on Shraddha, are also known as paper bag hem pants, and these have become a trendsetter favourite. Shraddha finished the look with heels and a tiny clutch bag.
Also adding a high-octane androgynous flair to her look with a pair of vinyl pants was Malaika Arora. She neatly tucked a crisp white shirt into the pair of statement pants and added a bow-tie to her look. She threw on a gold brocade blazer to up the ante and finished the look with a pair of slender, black strappy heels.
Katrina Kaif, on the other hand, is all about high-shine drama. Her combination of sparkly blue pants and a pyjama style silk shirt is perfect for that impromptu girls night out.
Low on effort, and high on impact, the new kid on the block, Alaya F, recently stepped out in a pair of black sequinned, front-slit, flared pants. She kept the look monochromatic, with a whimsical strapless top, to go with her statement pants.
We’ve seen rivets on jackets, accessories and footwear. But Ananya added a dash of spikes to her looks with black sequin pants and matching blazer. She paired the look with bralette on the inside.
Deepika Padukone knows a thing or two about statement pants, considering they’re a permanent favourite in her party wardrobe. Making a statement with her futurist, silver metallic pants which was the accent piece of her look and dressed it down with a basic white t-shirt.
