The saree is a quintessential must-have and the saree blouse leaves room for you to experiment even more. Needless to say that we’re a nation obsessed with Bollywood and back in the day, my only access to fashion was from the hit Bolly movies that launched. I would make it my life’s mission to go to my tailor and say, I want to re-create one particular look from the Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham song and he would gladly oblige. Everyone I knew wanted to look like a celebrity on the big screen because we were constantly looking for styles that appealed to our sensibilities. And we were secretly making a mental checklist for all our upcoming wedding functions that we could model these new looks at.

I know for a fact that even today we look to Bollywood for inspiration. The only difference is that now we look to the clothes celebs wear during their promotions instead of just the movies they are in. I’ve always enjoyed the drama and songs in Bollywood movies and it makes of an experience that is unique to Indian cinema. These dream-like sequences require larger than life costumes that eventually turn into some of our wardrobe staples.

Here’s a list of Bollywood celebrities wearing trendy saree blouses:

1. Sonam Kapoor in leaf-cut neckline

Sonam’s organza blouse with ditsy print detailing is elegant and feminine. I love the leaf cut neckline and the knot detailing around the end of her bell sleeves as well. A nice style when waiting to be sexy but graceful.

2. Kareena Kapoor Khan in a one-shoulder saree blouse

Bebo‘s one shoulder saree blouse is stunning as ever. She paired it with a customised organza hand-painted saree from Picchika.

3. Katrina Kaif in a lacy long-sleeved saree blouse

Love the plunging neckline on this saree blouse, it instantly elongates the neckline and makes the ensemble look trés chic. Plus it’s a happy break from all the black to be able to see some skin. Love the lace sleeves and the peek-a-boo effect from it. She wears Sabyasachi.

4. Kriti Sanon in cold-shoulder blouse

This saree is perfect for a mehendi look and what’s prettier is the cold-shoulder, ruffle sleeved saree blouse on this ensemble. Kriti wear a Manisha Malhotra creation.

5. Sonakshi Sinha in a thin strap scooped neckline blouse

This scoop-neck blouse is most commonly used by women but looks really fashionable. It leaves enough room for accessorising the look as well. Sona wears a saree from Raw Mango.

6. Diana Penty in tube top blouse

Diana’s 3d embellished, floral, tube top looks fab with this tie-dye sequin saree from Akanksha Gajria. This look is outstanding against Diana’s complexion.

7. Rakul Preet in halter style neckline

Rakul’s dhoti style stitched saree from Shehlaa Khan is quite a hot number for the summer. The plus point is its colour, of course. But the pleated detailing on this halter makes it a flattering and unique choice.

8. Vidya Balan in a cropped bolero blouse

Loving Viday’s unconventional use of the cropped bolero. The mix of a western formal garment with an Indian classic is quite unique. In fact, I always find Vidya experiments quite a lot with sarees and looks fantastic in them too. She is wearing Yavi, a unique and urban brand.

9. Malvika Mohanan in a bejewelled bustier

Malvika’s sweetheart neckline, spaghetti strap bustier works beautifully with this sheer number because you’re able to see all the embroidery on the blouse. This is a great neckline and blouse to wear with heavy diamond jewellery, also to show off those fantastic collar-bones. She is wearing a Falguni and Shane Peacock outfit.

10. Richa Chaddha in bishop sleeves

Richa’s regal saree blouse looks like an item I might pair with a high waisted skirt and trousers even. The blouse features bishop sleeve and has chevron style yellow stripes all across the blush pink blouse. Richa’s saree is from Nayantaara.

11. Konkona Sensharma in a polo neck saree blouse

The stand out hot-pink colour n this boxy polo neck blouse looks great. Pair with a printed saree like Konkona or pair with another bright solid colour. Her saree is from Rishta by Arjun Saluja—Arjun is famously known for his structured designs.

12. Tillotama Shome in a shirt

I love the idea of pairing a shirt with a saree because it seems like a modern take on a classic look. It can be a comfortable option for those who feel uncomfortable with the idea of skin show. Tillotama wears a saree from Viva la Vida By MSD.

13. Mira Kapoor in ruffled saree blouse

Mira’s v-neck blouse with ruffle detailing is so pretty, I love this onion pink saree that looks incredible on Indian skin tones. I would slick my hair back like Mira and wear statement earrings to enhance this look. She wears Manish Malhotra.
