Have you ever craved a delicious meal at the end of the day but you have had no energy to get up and make it? I’m in this pickle almost every single day; finally, I resort to the trusty food delivery apps on my phone. However, that’s a little tough to do right now, due to the lockdown enforced by the government to slow the spread of coronavirus. Some restaurants are still delivering food, but it’s better not to take the risk amirite? That’s why I’ve tried my hand at cooking, and I’ve started with the simplest of recipes. My favourite so far is this tomato sauce pasta recipe. It only requires a few ingredients, and it’s super straightforward, so it’s also beginner-friendly. So if you also want to cook yourself a quick dinner and treat yourself to this delicious Italian meal, then try making this tomato sauce pasta recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 5-6 fresh tomatoes
  • A handful of fresh basil leaves
  • 4-5 cloves of garlic
  • 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
  • 400 grams (2 cups) of pasta of your choice

Instructions:

  • Roughly chop the tomatoes and add them to a food processor and blend until they reach your desired consistency. (If you like tomato chunks in your sauce, then blend for a lesser amount of time.)
  • Finely cut the garlic cloves. In a pan, add your extra virgin olive oil and then add the chopped garlic. Let it simmer on medium heat for a few seconds.
  • Add the tomato puree into the pan and let it cook till the sauce reduces down and thickens. Stir it often.
  • While the tomato puree is simmering, add in some chopped basil. You can also add in the stalks of the basil leaves into the sauce for extra flavour.
  • Add salt and pepper according to taste.
  • After the puree has thickened, add in your boiled pasta and mix well. Voila! You’re done.

This recipe is so easy to make that even a newbie like me can get it right every time! You can always add more ingredients like olives, meat or more veggies to this recipe and customise it according to your taste.
