When it comes to fashion, our Bollywood celebrities are always at the forefront. They are always exploring and sporting new trends as well as repeating them like its NBD. Ever since the lockdown was initiated in our country, we haven’t been able to see any new celeb spottings. But that’s alright because we can also look back at some of the trends they’ve pulled off in the past. When I was looking at some of the old photos of our B-town babes and I noticed they had rocked the colour-blocking trend like total queens.

Put simply, colour-blocking in fashion means to pair bright, solid colours together that are usually contrasting. This style can be tricky to pull off but if you love to mix and match bright tones, this trend is for you. For those who want to understand what colours will work well, I suggest you take reference from the colour wheel. And, you can also take a look at how some of my favourite celebrities have nailed this trend.

1. Kareena Kapoor Khan

Is there any look Bebo can’t rock? In this look, she paired a blue one-shoulder top with a shiny, neon green pencil skirt. She paired them with strappy, vinyl stilettos to make sure her outfit gets all the attention.

2. Deepika Padukone

The red and pink combo was a major hit on the Emmy’19 red carpet. Bollywood celebrities have also sported this combination. However, if I had to give you an example of how to colour-block with these two shades, I would choose Deepika’s look to explain it. This is because of the choice of tones. While the dramatic top is of a soft pink tone, the striking red, paper bag waist pants bring all the contrast to the look, which creates a balance.

3. Kriti Sanon

If you’re experimenting with this trend for the first time, start with pairing purple and yellow as it creates a good contrast in a look. You don’t necessarily have to wear them as separates. Take notes from Kriti’s look. Her fluid, purple kurta has elements of a mustard yellow to add that much-needed colour pop.

4. Sara Ali Khan

Sara Ali Khan had opted to play with pastels. She paired a light green tube top with a babydoll pink, short, pleated skirt, and lavender stilettos. The combination totally works. To make it more fun, she wore a floral print blazer that consisted of similar shades in her look.

5. Bhumi Pednekar

Just like pink and red, dark orange with yellow works well too. Bhumi Pednekar’s burnt orange midi dress looks super classy and she chose to accessorise it with sunshine yellow heels and a black clutch.

6. Janhvi Kapoor

Janhvi’s ensemble is perfectly balanced with all the colours. That neon belt brings so much of oomph to this purple and white wrap dress. The pink, pointy toe stilettos and crimson earrings complete the look with finesse.

7. Sonam Kapoor Ahuja

Colour-blocking can be done with hints of colours here and there. Case in point, Sonam chooses to add contrast to her all-white look with that red turtle neck top beneath the jacket, cobalt-blue box bag and red vinyl boots.

8. Kirti Kulhari

Who said a pantsuit has to be a monochrome look? Go bold and pair a powder blue blazer over fuschia pink trousers, just like Kirti Kulhari.

9. Rakul Preet Singh

Instead of choosing solid-colour separates and pairing them together, Rakul Preet opted for a colour blocked dress. It looks super classy, right?

10. Shraddha Kapoor

You can also colour-block with a co-ord set. Shraddha paired her candy-striped, summery ensemble with bright pink, tassel earrings. How cute does she look?
