Each year, the month of May is marked as one of the most memorable ones for the fashion fraternity. First, is The Annual Met Gala, and then The Cannes Film Festival. A highly anticipated ceremony that celebrates the best of the film industry from around the world. Since we’re currently in the middle of May, I can’t help but take a fashion-walk down memory lane of this invite-only festival.
The 72nd edition of the festival that took place last year saw a few Bollywood regulars and a few debuts. Bollywood A-listers on the guest list included the likes of Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Kangana Ranaut, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Diana Penty, Huma Qureshi and Hina Khan. Needless to say, our divas left no sartorial stone unturned. Think exaggerated ruffles, an overload of feathers, star-studded gowns, structured jumpsuits, dramatic trails and more. There wasn’t a single day that our desi girls did not give us a major fashion moment. With no real-time celebration to look forward to this year, we thought of revisiting the previous edition because why not. Right?
8 of our favourite outfits that Bollywood celebrities wore to the 72nd Cannes Film Festival:
1. Deepika Padukone
The head-turning Giambatista Valli number instantly put Deepika in the limelight at The Cannes Film Festival. Drowning in tulle, the actress teamed this dress with a contrasting belt that cinched her waist and a bow around the neck. Upping the oomph was her cream-coloured headband with a giant flower.
2. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Looking like a vision in white, Aishwarya donned a gown from Ashi Studio. The tiered, tulle trail and the play of feathers from the waist up was a gorgeous amalgamation of two OTT elements. Don’t you think?
3. Sonam Kapoor Ahuja
In a bright red Maison Valentino number, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja’s jaw-dropping dress was an instant head-turner at The Cannes Film Festival. The starking hue, the dainty tiers of the gown, and the breezy silhouette make it a sight for sore eyes.
4. Priyanka Chopra Jonas
Drenched in sparkly studs, Priyanka’s debut look for the festival was an unforgettable one. The first impression is the last impression they say, and sticking by that, Priyanka’s Roberto Cavalli look assured she looked nothing short of stunning.
5. Diana Penty
Diana Penty made a case for structured yet comfortable jumpsuits at The Cannes Film Festival. The actor’s all-black Celia Kritharioti jumpsuit came with a hella stylish twist. A ginormous bow placed carefully on one of the shoulders also acted like a cape, further upping the ante.
6. Huma Qureshi
Making a wavy style statement, Huma Qureshi donned a stunning Gaurav Gupta gown for one of the days at the festival. The voluminous waves of the dress looked stellar as she walked the red carpet.
7. Kangana Ranaut
The intricate embellishments and the detailed embroideries of the outfit are two things I can’t seem to get over. Kangana’s Michael Cinco number at The Cannes Film Festival was too good to be true! Don’t you agree?
8. Hina Khan
Hina Khan’s Armine Ohanyan dress was simple yet chic and eye-grabbing. The 3D geometric shapes were a fun addition to the gown, while the chunky black belt cinched the whole outfit.
