Ever since the global pandemic has hit and with the lockdown WFH is in effect and I feel like I’m going stir crazy sometimes. As an introverted adult, who even before the lockdown was used to working from home, this is definitely new territory for me. Losing all sense of time and what day it is, has made it harder and harder to stick to a schedule and not dissolve into procrastination or laziness. I mean TBH, like most of my friends, I’m in my pyjamas all day, unless there’s a Zoom meeting scheduled when I put on a bra plus cue up my quick change in shirts.

The daily existential questions do pester me though, like; Do I have to leave my bed? How do I stop myself from taking multiple snack breaks? I only needed to go online to find other people going through the same problems and see that I wasn’t alone in this. So with my body craving some change or excitement, it was time to create some semblance of sanity. The easiest way to do this was to create a dress code that was sorely lacking in my household at the moment. I know you don’t want to get out of your comfy pyjamas and neither do I! The best thing that worked for me, was having different daytime and night-time sets. I set a time for the day when my workday would end, and it would be time to change into my night-time outfit.

This change really helps by making your brain realise when it’s bedtime. Otherwise, I don’t know about you, but my brain was starting to fog out in the mornings while sitting in the same PJ’s all day. Now don’t get confused, there really is a big difference between morning and night sleepwear, especially if you want to function through the day effectively. But hey, it’s also a great way to experiment styling the pyjamas-as-outerwear trend during this period.

Check out our tips and tricks for selecting the right PJs for working and lounging that makes a difference:

1. Fabric and Fit Matters

Morning:

Stick to more structured fits like pyjama shirts with collars and safe prints, in more breathable materials that will allow you to focus on work. A classic button-down pyjama shirt or shirt dress can work as an appropriate top for WFH Zoom calls. You can even go ahead and pull on a blazer if you feel the urge. Just remember to keep your pyjama bottoms out of frame.

Night:

When transitioning for the night, go for more shapeless or oversized garments to lounge in. You can go the extra mile and indulge yourself with silk, satin, feathers and more luxurious materials that make you feel good and have something to look forward to at night.

2. Overall Look

Morning:

The small details can make a big impact on your mood while in quarantine. Keep your hair tied up in a bun or pony for a neat presentable look for video calls and maybe some minimal makeup to make you feel more human. Even adding cute hairband or statement accessory can make you feel ready for the day ahead.

Night:

Don’t forget to accessorize for the night too! Wear some soft fluffy bedroom slippers to match your feather-trimmed nightie or a matching silky robe set and channel the glamorous Hollywood actresses of the ‘40s and ‘50s.

3. Have Fun

Morning:

Don’t be afraid to let your set for the day reflect your personality. Just pick more elevated prints or patterns for the day or even solid colours. Got some time? Try experimenting styling the PJs as outerwear trend for when you step out of the house eventually and see what works.

Night:

Go wild! The choices are endless, have fun with colour, prints, fabrics or even mixing and matching sets. Just because it’s pyjamas doesn’t mean you can’t be chic. Why not pick a special set for a girl’s night Skype party?

4. Comfort is important

At the end of the day, your attire needs to be comfortable whether you are sleeping, lounging or working.  Give yourself a break and don’t be so hard on yourself with following strict rules. We all are human, and this is a chaotic time, so embrace it and wear what feels right to you. Pour yourself a glass of wine at the end of the day and take it easy. You made it another day!
