Ekta Kapoor has been facing some abhorrent comments after an FIR was lodged against her by Hindustani Bhau of Bigg Boss fame. The FIR was lodged against her for an inappropriate intimate scene with an Indian Army reference. But the TV mogul has been receiving some serious backlash that has escalated to rape threats from certain social media bullies, but she had chosen to remain silent about it until now.

Today in a panel discussion with Shobha De, Nandita Das, Gul Panag, Gurdeep Kohli and  our very own Malini Agarwal, Shobha asked her on the current threat and wrath she has been facing on social media.

Ekta said:

As an individual and as an organization we are deeply respectful towards Indian army. Their contribution  to our well being and security is immense. Yes, we shall readily tender an unconditional apology if such a demand comes from any bonafide army institution. But we won’t bow down to uncivilized cyber bullying and rape threats by random elements.

She further added that:

When we got to know that there was even an FIR lodged, we removed the content anyway because of the certification. Content aside, I don’t have any qualms in putting out an apology to army’s wives. We have no problems with them. What irritated me the most was that the cyberbullying started simultaneously when we had already put a stop. This gentleman thinks he’s the ‘patriot of the year.’ He decided to come and abuse my mother and me, and got his trolls to do the same. We have received rape threats on a social platform. This is no longer about the army or sexual content because the irony is that you’re saying you want to ‘rape a girl, son and 71-year-old mother’ for making sexual content. That means sex is bad but rape is okay.

As a final note she said that she would have said the apology a long time ago and that it was no big deal for her because respecting the army is something that she always does. She also admitted that it was a fictional character, a mistake from their side which they immediately rectified.

Ekta stood strong in her stand and said:

I’m not going to apologize. I’m not going to bow down to a bully. You can abuse me all you want.

Ekta took a stand against cyberbullying saying that tomorrow there can be any other woman in her place facing the same outrage and somewhere this needs to end.
