Bajirao Mastani was a film that was a visual masterpiece, with every frame telling a story of its own. What strung it all together was Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s combination of music, dance and larger than life settings. With so many theatrical elements to this story, it is not a surprise to see this tale be translated on stage.
The Bajirao Mastani musical play is all set to star model and actor Rajniesh Duggal as Bajirao. Pandit Birju Maharaj is the creative director for the play with Maitreyee Pahari directing it.
Speaking about it, Rajniesh says:
I am extremely glad to have been trained under the guidance of Pandit Birju Maharaj ji for the musical. This is something I have never done before. While initially the plan was to take it to different cities and countries there is a possibility that it will go online. The talks are still on.
Given the lockdown situation in the country right now, online seems to be an interesting option.
SLB’s characters were brought to life by Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra. Ranveer played the Maratha Peshwa, Bajirao, Deepika played his lover Mastani and Priyanka essayed the role of his wife, Kashibhai. While we don’t know much about the rest of the cast as yet, this is sure something to look forward to!
