The debate on nepotism is at an all-time high after the untimely and tragic demise of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. The word that we first used in regards to Bollywood when Kangana Ranaut had been guest on Koffee With Karan along with Saif Ali Khan and accused Karan Johar of being the flagbearer of nepotism in Bollywood. After Sushant’s demise, social media users have started blaming Bollywood biggies like KJo and star kids like Alia Bhatt, Sonam Kapoor, and Sonakshi Sinha for not being inclusive. Episodes wherein these star kids are guests on Koffee With Karan and mentions of Sushant has come up, they’ve been dismissive. Even though KWK is all fun and games, netizens have been resharing Alia’s and Sonam’s old episodes and saying all of these jibes must’ve been what pushed Sushant to make such a tragic decision.

While Sonakshi has deactivated her twitter due to the hate that she’s been receiving, Sonam took to Twitter on her Father’s day to credit Karma for her privilege. Now recently, Saif spoke about this whole heated debate that keeps erupting on social media in an interview with Anupama Chopra from Film Companion.

Talking about it, he said:

They’ve come up purely through talent, while some of us, frankly, have had doors opened for us by privilege of our birth and the parents we’ve had. So, given that undercurrent, when you’re on set and you do a scene and you are as prepared as anyone else and you deliver a line which is on par with if not better than everyone, then you feel better. And to earn the respect of those guys felt really important.

In the aftermath of Sushant’s death, Saif had also spoken up about how he felt appalled as to how some celebrities were taking advantage of Sushant’s death to gain some mileage. He had pointed out what we need to do is observe a day of silence and respect the actor instead of posting messages on social media when you didn’t care for the actor when he was alive.

What do you guys think about Saif’s comment?
