Studying in a boarding school can completely change you as a person. I remember while growing up my elder sister used to be scared of all types of animals, talking to people, going out for walks—just everything in general! And that’s when my dad decided she needed to grow and get over her fear of doing everyday things. So, he got her enrolled in a boarding school in Hyderabad when she was just in the 6th grade. She cried her eyes out and didn’t want to go at all. But after a lot of convincing and showing her the perks of her boarding school, she agreed. And I remember the person who came back after a year was totally different!

Her experience at the boarding school shaped her into the person she is today—confident, outgoing, and always ready to try out new things. She even loves going on solo trips now! Back then, none of us would have imagined she’d change so drastically, but she did. And now, she counts her boarding school years as the best years of her life! And so, I thought why not pen down the pros and cons of studying at a boarding school for those who’re unsure about what it has in store for them. Scroll down to check out the 3 things that are both pros and cons in a boarding school.

1. Away From Parents

Pro

When you’re in your teenage years, all you want is freedom. You don’t want your parents to boss you around all the time and nag you about your studies and chores. So now, you finally get to do stuff on your own and there’s nobody running behind you 24*7. This also makes you treasure the time you spend with your family since it doesn’t happen that often.

Con

It might be all fun and games most of the days, but we all need our parents by our side, especially when we hit the lows. They help us keep our stress levels down, hold our hands through the worst times, and guide us on the right path. There will be nights when you’ll miss being around your family, eating your favourite meal prepared by your mom, having them tell you it’s just gonna be okay and lots more!

2. Living With Your BFFs

Pro

Isn’t that a dream come true? Getting to live with your friends all the time, sharing the same space, having meals together, studying together! You can just show up in their room whenever it all gets too much to handle and talk it out. Also, it’s a sleepover every day with your friends if you’re placed in the same room or dorm.

Con

To be honest, it can eventually make you go a little crazy. Because it’s natural to have a few ups and downs with the people you live with and see all the time. You might fight with your friends, sometimes a little more than often. Always having to share your space with them, cleaning up after them and other small things can make you tick off when the times are wrong!

3. Proper Schedules

Pro

Living in a boarding school means having a set schedule for everything—not just your classes. Right from waking up to having meals to studying to sports activities to sleeping, it all has a time set for it. And this helps you become more organised in life and you’ll be surprised at how much you can actually get done if you follow a proper schedule.

Con

As we know, each day is not the same. And so, having to complete your tasks as per the set schedule can get too much sometimes. There will be nights when you don’t get enough sleep because you had to complete that assignment that’s pending or just catch up with your friends. It can be stressful to check it all off your list every day on time.
