The Bandra Police have been questioning a lot of people in relation the the death by suicide of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. From his rumoured girlfriend, Rhea Chakraborty to his ‘Dil Bechara‘ co-star, Sanjana Sanghi, and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, a lot of them have already been called in to record their statements. Now, according a report by Mid-Day, director Shekhar Kapur was also approached for his statement.

The day after the actor’s death, the director tweeted about how he knows the ones who pushed him into depression. He had written, “I knew the pain you were going through. I knew the story of the people that let you down so bad that you would weep on my shoulder. I wish I was around the last 6 months. I wish you had reached out to me. What happened to you was their Karma. Not yours. “

So, the state government asked the police to record his statement too. Since he isn’t in town, he has sent across his statement through mail. But he reportedly doesn’t mention any names. He spoke about the film ‘Paani‘, where he briefly worked with Sushant. He says that because Yash Raj Films backed out of the project, it got shelved and Sushant was devastated because he had worked really hard on it. He feels this could be what led to Sushant’s depression.

Detailing a little about it, the Mr. India director said in the statement that Paani was a 150 Crore project, which began in 2014, but due to creative differences, Yash Raj Films backed out of the project in 2015. While he did approach other production houses, either the budget was too high for them or they didn’t want to take a chance with Sushant as the lead. He also mentioned about how he got really close to Sushant then as they would talk about life and quantum physics. He says he wasn’t in touch with him for a while afterwards because he left to London.

Though the police have received his mail, they have still summoned him to be present in front of the investigating officer for more clarity. The report also states that Kangana Ranaut, who has spoken extensively on Sushant’s death, has also been summoned by the police. But, the actress is also not in town and is currently with her family in Arunachal Pradesh.
