Social media, Instagram specifically, can be a wonderful place to find inspiration, connect with a whole lot of creativity and hone our own talent. All too often we hear about the negatives of social media, and although they are very valid points, we should also appreciate the good that comes out of it. I like to keep a thumb rule in mind when following people on Instagram. I only follow people I personally know or those that truly inspire me. Aspirational accounts are great, sometimes they can even push you to do better. But more often than not, they can create a sense of anxiety and restlessness within us. Keeping your digital space clean, happy and healthy is just as important as our physical space, though we usually tend to overlook it.
To help you get started, I’ve listed some of my favourite fashion accounts on Instagram. Following accounts that put out purposeful content over curated content always leave a mark and give me a healthy dose of inspiration
I came across her YouTube channel accidentally one day, and I’m glad I did! Her Instagram displays her simple, minimal and very chic aesthetic. I enjoy her content for its aesthetic visuals, effort and purpose.
An account that keeps on giving! Wisdom‘s love for fashion, its history and pop culture combined make him a force to be reckoned with. He goes beyond the mainstream ideas and digs deeper into concepts like colour theory, fashion history and more.

Went back in time to 1974 to take these photos. I dressed the part obviously in order to conceal my presence as it could cause a butterfly effect. But it was upon the review of the photographs when I noticed something strange. There appears to be a gentleman in the background of one of the photos. Initially I dismissed this as odd, but upon closer inspection I noticed his attire was….modern. Incredibly modern. I can conclude that I was not the only time traveler in this location at this exact time. However, I was the only one who was taught the implications of appearing as if not from a particular time period. Lord knows who could have seen him and what sort of ripple effect he could have had on our modern day…
A fashion critic and outright sass queen, Luke‘s main platform is YouTube but his Instagram gives me the tea about the fashion industry. Very few people can call out the industry they are working in and Luke does just that, based on facts and not opinions.
Sonia’s content gives me the ‘strong, independent woman vibe’ who knows what she wants and then gets it. Her neat, colour coordinated feed doesn’t just feature chic outfits but artsy shoots, authentic and real posts giving us an insight of her life. With social media being cluttered, very few can cut through the noise and Sonia’s content does that for me.

A regular on Buzzfeed As/Is, Jazzmyne is real and raw. Her fashion sense is loud, bold and so in sync with her personality that it inspires me to be more experimental with my own fashion choices.
These are just a few of my favourite accounts on Instagram, ones that motivate and excite me to do better. It’s important to ensure where we direct our time and energy, especially on social media. There’s no hard and fast rule to follow the most popular accounts on Instagram if they don’t inspire you or make you feel good about yourself. Instead, direct your energy on the ones that do!
