Everyone has their own way of dealing with this current situation. Some are cooking, getting back to their hobbies or learning new skills. While others (including me) have found comfort in binge-watching movies and series’ on OTT platforms. Though I don’t have a specific or favourite genre I like to watch, I have lately come across some lovely films and television shows with brilliantly written stories centred around some strong women! So, I have put together a list of 5 films and series that should definitely be on your watchlist.

1.  Gunjan Saxena (Netflix)

Gunjan Saxena is inspired by the life of the courageous and ambitious young female Air Force officer who created history by becoming the first Indian female officer to fly in a combat zone during the 1999 Kargil War. Starring Jahnavi Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Angad Bedi among others, this film just premiered on Netflix and is a must watch this weekend.

2. Aarya (Hotstar)

Starring Sushmita Sen in the titular role, Aarya chronicles the story of a woman who takes on uncalled for responsibilities after her husband is attacked. She grapples through the many challenges, violence, blackmail, lies and treachery she faces from the hands of the drug mafia and her acquaintances and goes to any limit to safeguard her family and children.

3. Raat Akeli Hai (Netflix)

The film revolves around an Inspector, Jatil Yadav (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) who is assigned to be the scrutineer on a high profile murder case. As he digs deeper into the shady past of the victim’s family, it is clear that each member is hiding something while they try to frame the murdered man’s new widow, Radha (Radhika Apte).

4. Bulbbul (Netflix)

Bulbbul is set in Bengal and chronicles the story of a young bride who believes in age-old, haunting tales of the village. As she grows up, a mysterious force encircles her and the village where all the men are mysteriously killed. While there is a hunt to find out who is behind these killings, through the course of its story, Bulbbul also addresses issues like child marriage and abusive landlords.

5. Flesh (Eros Now)

Flesh is an upcoming web series which narrates the story of a no-nonsense, feisty female cop (played by Swara Bhasker) who wishes to kill all sex traffickers. She is assigned to find the young daughter of a wealthy couple, played by Yudhishtir and Vidya Malvade. The series will stream from August 21 on Eros Now and also stars Akshay Oberoi.
