In honour of India’s 74th Independence Day, Ila Paliwal, an award-winning singer, songwriter, and producer, has released a new track. It is called “Vande Mataram” and it is the lead single of Ila’s much anticipated nine-track record album, ILA—The Earth Symphony.  Check out all the details of the amazing track right here!

What is the track all about

Described as “An ode to Mother India and Mother Earth”, this song is a beautiful rendition of the Sanskrit-Bengali poem written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee. It brings together Indian classical music and traditional folk and contemporary western orchestration. This makes the song relevant whilst retaining the essence of the meaning of the song through the lyrics. Ila collaborated with Grammy Award-winning composer and environmentalist, Ricky Kej for the album. Consequently, their shared appreciation towards the environment and sustainability comes shining through not only in the words of the songs but also in their delivery.

Ila’s inspiration for this rendition of Vande Mataram

Featuring the 75 piece-Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Royal Choir of London UK, ILA—The Earth Symphony has been recorded at the renowned Abbey Road Studios in London by John Barrett.  Having being brought up across six countries over four continents, Ila has had a diverse upbringing. This is reflected in the album as it strives to create an assemblage of the old and new, acting as a symbol of universal harmony and solidarity. The album is a product of collaboration between over 150 artists, belonging to diverse musical traditions. Furthermore, it includes the three-time Grammy-winning Soweto Gospel Choir of South Africa, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of London UK, as well as various Indian and American classical artists.

Ila speaks about why her music encourages environmental consciousness

A lot of times we get so caught up in our daily lives and we forget that nature is abundant but not limitless. The planet earth has existed for millennia and it can survive without us but as humans, we cannot. My album is a musical tribute to our forests, rivers, space and to the greatest artist of all, Mother Nature. I hope my music inspires listeners to think how our actions – to one another, and to our environment – are all connected. We all must do our part in making environment-friendly choices and consume less so we can make this planet a better and healthier place for generations to come.”

In the past, Ila has collaborated with other greats in the world of music. Her highly acclaimed and award-winning album, Navaratna is executive produced by A.R. Rahman, an Oscar and Grammy-winning composer. For eight consecutive weeks, Navaratna topped the Amazon Asia’s charts. In addition, its track, “Holi”, was presented with the 2018 RoundGlass Award in the Best World Music category.

Ila’s devotion comes through in each note of the melody. ‘Vande Mataram’ resonates with the patriot that resides within each of us. The album is a reminder to the masses to pause, reflect, appreciate. Similarly, it reminds us to actively take steps to make the world a better place.

ILA—The Earth Symphony released on August 2nd, 2020 on all major digital platforms around the world. You can check it out on Spotify, Amazon Music, and JioSaavn.
