The on-going coronavirus pandemic has rained down on a lot of our plans, amirite? Most importantly, it has made us turn our usually extravagant celebrations and festivities into low-key affairs. The upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations are no different. This year, the celebrations in Maharashtra and the entire country may be  low-key, but it’s always a happy occasion with family around us. And that’s exactly what Sonu Sood wanted for more than 300 migrant labourers.

According to a report by Times Of India, the hero of the lockdown, Sonu, has taken it upon himself to make sure migrant labourers who are stuck in the city get to go back home to their families in remote villages of Maharashtra and Konkan.

Speaking about it to the publication, Sonu said:

Recently, some migrant workers who live in Lalbaug and behind the Siddhivinayak Temple in Prabhadevi reached out to me with a plea. I organised buses for them with all necessary permissions. The first batch of around 300 left 5 days ago and another batch will leave soon.

He says that his sons, Eshaan and Ayaan are also contributing to help and says that they have realised that there’s joy in giving back to the society. He adds that he feels reassured that his sons will carry his deeds forward.

There is going to be a book that’s going to be published about Sonu’s efforts to help migrant labourers and others in these tough times. When asked about a biopic on him, which is doing the rounds, Sonu tells the publication that it is too soon to say.
