Watching two strong women break the rules and shatter the moulds of patriarchy is always so wonderful to watch, no? That’s what it felt like watching the trailer of Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare. From the looks of the trailer, Bhumi Pednekar and Konkona Sen Sharma are a riot in this film about love, life and freedom!

Set in the outskirts of New Delhi, this story chronicles the lives of these two women, Dolly and Kitty, played by Konkona and Bhumi, and how they get entangled in the ropes of patriarchy and misogyny. Directed by Alankrita Srivastava, the film also stars Vikrant Massey, Amol Parashar, Aamir Bashir, Kubbra Sait and Karan Kundrra.

Dolly is in a loveless marriage, and finds love and meaning when she meets a pizza salesman, played by Amol. On the other hand, Kitty is a small-town girl who dreams of the city life for herself and falls for one of her own customers (Vikrant) of the call centre she works at. These relationships of theirs challenges societal norms, which leads them to go on their own journeys of discovering what it is like to live life on their own terms as women.

Speaking about the film, director Alankrita Srivastava says:

Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare is a story with these two quirky, layered characters at its heart – Dolly and Kitty. The two cousins are trying to break through many visible and invisible shackles to live life on their own terms. It’s a film with a light and fun tone! And although the film is entirely fictional, the film for me is very personal and there is a certain truth about the bond Dolly Kitty shares. It is real and relatable. The journey of Dolly and Kitty is unexpected and funny and sad and joyful at the same time. And I hope their rollercoaster ride is engaging and entertaining for audiences.

Produced by Balaji Telefilms, the film is all set to release on Netflix on the 18th of September, and I am super excited to catch it!
