Congratulations are in order, Oscar-winner actor Joaquin Phoenix and fiance Rooney Mara have become parents to baby boy River. According to reports, the couple has named their son after Joaquin’s late older brother, actor River Phoenix, who passed the age of 23 due to a drug overdose in 1993.

The good news was reportedly shared by Russian filmmaker, Victor Kossakovsky while a Q&A at the 2020 Zurich Film Festival that took place on Sunday. This was after the screening of his documentary ‘Gunda’, which has been executively produced by Pheonix. “He just got a baby, by the way, his name was … a beautiful son called River, so he cannot promote it now,” the filmmaker said when he was quizzed about the ‘Joker’ star.

The couple met on the sets of ‘Mary Magdalene’ in 2016, in which Mara played the titular role and Phoenix played the role of Jesus. They started seeing each other soon after and the couple made their red carpet debut at the closing ceremony of Cannes Film Festival 2017. A few months later, Joaquin confirmed during an interview that they were living together. The couple got engaged in July 2019.

Heartiest congratulation to Joaquin and Rooney.
