Sweaters are a closet staple of fall and winter season but they are also very trendy items in fashion right now. With the influx of ‘90s and early 2000s and even ‘70s fashion returning over the past seasons, we’ve seen many of versions of cardigans and cute sweaters making the rounds. From chunky styles to cropped looks, grandma-chic is totally in. So now it’s time to pull those pieces out of the closet.

Personally, I love the fall and winter season and have a weakness for boots and cosy sweaters. However, unless you live in the northern states, we don’t truly get a fall or winter-like cold weather. It always seems to take forever for the weather to cool off, but hey any time it’s sort of cool, I take that as an excuse to pull out my seasonal pieces. So if you enjoy autumnal pieces or just want to get in on the trendy knitwear trend, you’re in luck! You can actually style your pieces for this transitional weather without sweating buckets. We’ve rounded up some cute, breathable outfits you can recreate as the weather slowly cools but still be stylish and on-trend.

Keep scrolling and check out how you can style knitwear for the transitional weather this season:

1. Cardigan set

We love good co-ord and matching sets. Leaning perfectly into the trendy grandma knit-wear trend, pair your matching cropped tank top and cardigan with your favourite pair of denim. Sinead Crowe rocks the perfect relaxed, cool-girl style with her cardigan set and light-wash, high-waisted jeans. The neutral tones are perfect for a cool yet sunny fall day. Wear it with some sandals on warmer days and add on some coll boots when the weather cools down. A look that’s actually effortless but looks like you actually tried.

2. Crochet napkin top

Every city doesn’t quite experience fall or winter weather. So if it’s still sunny where you are at but you want to get into some fun knitwear, try out a crochet napkin top. You can pair this halter top with almost any sort of bottoms but personally, we love the ‘70s vibes Alyssa Coscarelli is giving us with the pairing of flared pants and chunky heels.

3. Cropped cardigan

We really enjoy a puff-sleeve cardigan, it’s always a good idea for any occasion! And this pink cropped cardigan Ellie has styled as a top with her denim is super cute and trendy. It’s actually the perfect street-style look for the transitional weather. Love how she’s added some fun accessories like the lime green purse and zebra shoes that really make the outfit pop. It’s a great example of how not to shy away from playing with textures, prints and colours to create a winning combo that expresses your personal style. In fact, cropped cardigan sweaters are having quite a moment right now and we’re betting they’ll be on our radars throughout spring 2021.

4. Sweater and slip dress

Pair your favourite sweater or jumper this season with a midi slip dress with some cute sneakers. If your sweater is a solid colour, going monochrome really is an easy way to look put-together and chic in a jiffy. Olivia Rose looks super cosy and stylish in this all-white look from with an edge of sophistication, along with her pulled-back hair and completed with chic sunglasses for the day.

5. Sweater vest

If cool grandma vibes are a thing, cool grandpa isn’t far behind courtesy the sweater vests. A smart yet cosy look for the fall weather is this shirt dress and vest combo by Alice Geary. It is an effortless look for lunch with your girlfriends on a chilly day. Sticking to the neutral tones with minimal accessories, she’s teamed the outfit with a cute baguette bag and leather booties that will keep your toes warm in case the weather turns.
