November through December is my favourite time of the year. You could say it’s because the temperature drops and I can finally wear layers. Or because Bollywood is pulling out all the stops to look smoking hot during this time. These stars never cease to impress with their sartorial choices and elegant ways to celebrate. Diwali is the festival of lights in India. Essentially, it is the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. The celebrations span over 5 days and for those few days we’re happy.

We spend our days leading up to the festival cleaning and preparing for the grandiose celebrations. Even though we are in the midst of a pandemic, Diwali has given us a reason to be joyous again. Bollywood came out in full support and we were in awe of their choices. Scroll on to see some of our favourite Diwali looks from our favourite celebrities.

Let’s take a closer look at what Bollywood wore to Diwali this year:

1) Bhumi Pednekar

Bhumi Pednekar wears a poppy red, chiffon organza jumpsuit with a dupatta from Ridhi Mehra. The ensemble features a plunging neckline with silver piping and 3/4th sleeves. The outfit is the perfect blend of vintage and modern. She adds glam with one of Ridhi Mehra‘s signature embroidered belts. Bhumi accessorises her look with a gold choker and matching earrings from Joolry by Karishma Mehra. She twists the side of her hair and pulls it into a messy low ponytail. In true Bollywood retro style she wears a red flower in her hair to add drama to her look. Pranita Shetty adds 1 finishing touch to her look with the Lady Dior handbag.

2) Sonakshi Sinha

Mohit Rai gives Sonakshi Sinha a pastel pink Sukriti and Aakriti sharara set. The slip-style kurta features a deep neckline, a scalloped hemline. She pairs it with matching, pleated, embellished pants. The sheer dupatta elevates the femininity and minimal aspects of this outfit. To accessorise her look she wears silver antique earrings, a choker and rings from Lara Morakhia. The Bollywood star completes her look with Aprajita Toor silver sandals and a tiny pink bindi.

3) Athiya Shetty

Ami Patel styles Athiya Shetty in an all-white salwar set by Rahul Mishra. The ensemble features embroidery from the vivid underwater life of the coral reef and its ecosystem. She pairs her look with wide-leg palazzo pants and an organza dupatta. This Bollywood star accessorises her look with vinyl sandals and diamond earrings from Mahesh Notandass.

4) Manushi Chhillar

Manushi Chhillar wears a sharara set from Mayeera Jaipur. The outfit features a blend of floral motifs to chevron and paisley prints. The bright pink and gold combination looks beautiful on Manushi. She accessorises her look with gold earrings and a tiny bindi.

5) Jacqueline Fernandez

Jacqueline Fernandez and stylist Chandni Wahabi are breaking stereotypes about wearing black to a festive occasion with this number. This Indo-fusion is look is by Tarun Tahiliani. Jackie wears a black velvet corset with a sweetheart neckline. She pairs it with embellished, skinny trousers and an oversized black cape. For accessories she opts of statement silver necklaces from Curio Cottage and black pumps from YSL. Really love her flair for the dramatic in true Bollywood fashion with her updo.

6) Nora Fatehi

Maneka Harisinghani styles Nora Fatehi in a shimmering olive saree by Faabiiana. The saree features a gold, embellished scalloped border and she wears it with a matching, strappy blouse. Nora really knows how to bring the heat to all her looks. Sultry hair and makeup elevate this Bollywood star’s aesthetic. She accessorises her look with a statement green, layred necklace from Goenka India and rings from Roopa Vohra Fine Jewellery.

7) Malaika Arora

Maneka Harisinghani styles Malaika Arora in an Anamika Khanna classic lehenga. The embellished blouse with organza cape paired with the red skirt is a modern play on Indianwear. She accessorises her look with silver earrings, rings and matha patti from Apala by Sumit. The jewellery definitely plays a major role in elevating this outfit. However what really creates the statement is the cuffs from Creyons and the Gajra in her hair. Bollywood’s sexiest mummy really knows how to go from being sexy to desi effortlessly.

8) Tara Sutaria

Meagan Concessio styles Tara Sutaria in a colourful salwar set by Manish Malhotra. The Bollywood beauty wears a brick red, textured kurta with antique zari work on the sleeves and deep neckline. She pairs the look with moss green pants with a heavily embellished hemline. To complete her festive look she adds a purple, woven, brocade dupatta. For accessories she wears, gold chaandbaali earrings from Curio Cottage and gold juttis from Fizzy Goblet and flowers in her hair. True to Bollywood form she finishes her look with a tiny black bindi.

9) Diana Penty

Namita Alexander styles Diana Penty in a fuchsia, chiffon-organza, draped ruffle saree with a beaded raw silk blouse from Ridhi Mehra. She skillfully uses a bejewelled embroidered belt to pull the look together. This model turned Bollywood star accessorises with emerald green, tear-drop earrings from Joolry by Karishma. She adds a studded bindi to complete this elegant and fresh look.

10) Neha Dhupia

The Gumani stylists keep it simple but elegant with Neha Dhupia’s Diwali look. The kurta set is bright yellow with zardozi and zari embellishments. To complete her look she wears gold earrings and a choker from The Olio Stories.

11) Ananya Panday

Ami Patel styles Ananya Panday in a rain pink lehenga from Anita Dongre. The lehenga features a V-neck blouse with floral motifs in silver thread embroidery. The skirt is a handcrafted Bandhini lehenga that can easily take somewhere between 6 to 8 months to make. The is a traditional tie-dye artform that originates from Bhuj, Gujarat. This Bollywood starlet is glowing in this radiant colour and accessorises her look with gold earrings.

12) Tamannaah Bhatia

Sukriti Grover styles Tamannaah Bhatia in a fresh off the runway Manish Malhotra saree. The ombré amethyst sequin saree is a signature Manish Malhotra garment. She styles the look with a matching ombré, plunging neckline blouse that looks as soft as butter. Doesn’t Tamannaah look regal with her pearl choker accessory? Love the hair and makeup as well, as it really amps up the feel of the saree.

13) Janhvi Kapoor

Janhvi Kapoor looks like a sunshine girl in her all-yellow Manish Malhotra saree. Her late mother Sridevi also always favoured Manish so it’s no question that her beautiful daughter is following suit. The silk sareee features a matching blouse with zari detailing. The saree is simple but stunning and she accessorises with gold Manish Malhotra Jewellery earrings. This Bollywood newcomer also admits to doing her own hair and makeup for this look. I think she did a great job, no?

14) Malavika Mohanan

Malavika Mohanan wears a bright pink anarkali by Simar Dugal. The outfit is an amalgamation of geometric lines in gotta patterns and banarsi’s from Mughal era. She accessorises her look with earrings from Joolry by Karishma.
