I think we can all agree with the fact that 2020 has truly been a rollercoaster ride of emotions. With so much happening around the globe, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. However, it’s weird that the only place I found comfort in was the internet because it made me realise that we’re all in this together. Right from super fun challenges to hella relatable memes, creators left no stone unturned in churning up content for grief-stricken people trying to use humour as a coping mechanism. Viral trends spread like wildfire in a forest! So, let’s take a walk down memory lane and appreciate some of the most viral trends that kept us going through the year that was 2020.

1. Socially Distanced Logos

Few brands like Audi, McDonalds and Coca-Cola re-designed their logos to promote social distancing amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Genius, isn’t it?

2. Instagram Challenges

Gesture, Flip The Switch, Quarantine Pillow, Safe Hands, Pass The Brush and It’s Tricky are just a few of the many challenges that kept us hooked to Instagram.

3. Dalgona Coffee/Banana Bread

I still remember whipping up some Dalgona coffee for myself and then skipping arm work out for a week. Can y’all relate?

4. Everything is Cake!

“Omg, why is he stabbing a cat! Wait, that’s a cake? What? Am I a cake, too?”

5. DIY Haircuts

Raise your hands if you’re still growing out the bangs you gifted yourself this pandemic!

6. Zoom Meetings/Online Classes

Nothing beats the feeling of unmuting yourself for attendance and then going off to sleep. Amirite or amirite?

In Ludo, we don’t say “I Love You”, we simply don’t cut their best token and I think that’s beautiful.

With people realising the social cost of fast fashion, the concept of thrift stores became highly popular on Instagram and I’m all for it!

I never realised how easy it was to make my parents feel proud of myself until I started waking up every morning to watch Ramayan and Mahabharat. I mean, I have a degree, you guys!

10. Playdate/Main Tera Edits

Not gonna lie, my resume still has ‘watching Playdate edits’ under the hobby section and I think that is exactly why I got this job!

Let’s face it guys. 2020 would have been extremely boring without Seema Aunty and Maheep Kapoor‘s hilarious commentary on life.

16. Netflix Stream Fest

I think all my prayers were answered the day Netflix announced that it’s going free for 2 days. Don’t we all agree on that?

17. Celebrity Weddings/Pregnancies

If I had a penny for every time a celebrity announced their marriage this year, I would probably be rich enough to have a destination wedding at Lake Como in Italy.

18. Mental Health Matters

After everything we went through this year, it was only fair to spread awareness and normalise the importance of mental health in our lives. It was a welcome change to see people openly talk about the advantages of seeking therapy and it made my year.
