I don’t know about you but I could live on South Indian cuisine my entire life. Right from the typical breakfast options to filling meals, South Indian cuisine has so much in store for every type of eater. And one of their best creations is idlis! I am always trying different types of idlis and just cannot get enough of them. If you too feel the same way about idlis then this recipe is for you. Vidhi Doshi a.k.a @ramenhairedgirl sent in her recipe of stuffed idlis and I am super excited to try them out for myself. Scroll down to check out the entire recipe with step by step images.

What You’ll Need

1 1/4 cup boiled and mashed potato

2 tsp oil

1/2 tsp mustard seeds

1 tsp urad dal

1 finely chopped onion

1 finely chopped green chilli

5 curry leaves

1/4 cup boiled green peas

Salt to taste

2 pinches turmeric powder

1/2 tsp chilli powder

4 cups ready idli batter

Here’s How You Can Put It Together

Step 1: Heat oil in a pan, add the mustard seeds and urad dal and let it splutter.

Step 2: Add the curry leaves, green chilli, onion and saute fry 2-3 minutes.

Step 3: Now add the boiled peas and potatoes, cook for a minute.

Step 4: Add all the remaining spices and salt, mix well and cook for 3-4 minutes. Keep aside.

Step 5: Grease the idli moulds with oil and fill it halfway with idli batter. Place a small spoonful of potato filling in the center.

Step 6: Pour more idli batter on top to cover the filling.

Step 7: Steam the idlis for 12-15 minutes till done. Serve the stuffed idlis with chutney and sambar.
