As the cold weather sets in, dry skin, puffy eyes, and dry scalps make their comebacks, just like most seasonal trends do. Here are some tips to keep your hair, skin, lips and eyes from falling prey to the cold winter chills. Unless, you live in hotter, more humid places like Mumbai and Goa—and in that case, you can enjoy a little bit of a cool breeze and use these very simple, at-home tips to make your skin look fresher and healthier.

1. Hair Mask

Aloe Vera gel contains vitamins such as A, C, and E which help to make your hair (even skin) healthy and shiny. A hair mask should always be a part of one’s hair care routine. It provides a lot of nourishment and it should be used once a week. Especially during the winters when hair breakage and dry scalps becomes a common issue. Here’s what you can do:

  1. Slather a generous amount of aloe vera gel onto your scalp.
  2. Massage it well to soothe your scalp and let it rest.
  3. Sometimes you can use it as gel for your rough end and keep it on. Or else you can wash it off after a while.

2. Skincare

Olive oil and a granulated salt mixture is known to be quite moisturising for the skin. Olive oil is rich in antioxidants and vitamin E which helps to nourishes the skin. Whereas, salt helps to exfoliate the dead skin cells. Olive oil is one of the most nourishing skincare properties and provides a healthy glow to your skin. Here’s how you can use it:

  1. Take a generous amount onto your palms.
  2. Massage it well all over your body.

Let it soak in and wash after.

3. Lip Scrub

Chapped lips are the worst and can be quite painful to a certain extent. However if you live in a really cold and dry place, applying a lip balm won’t be enough. Lip scrubs help in getting rid of the impurities that might lead to chapped lips, and scrubbing once a week helps in getting rid of those unnecessary impurities. Thus improving the overall texture of the lips. Here’s what you can do:

  1. Sleep with some shea butter or ghee slathered on your lips and wake up with softer lips.
  2. You can also opt for a granulated sugar and butter scrub that can be washed after application and scrubbing the lips.

4. Eye care

Right after you wake up, place two tea bags in cold water for a few minutes and then rest them on your eyes. The cold will help de-puff your eyes and the tea will soothe the skin since it has antioxidant properties. Extreme, chilly weather might lead to unwanted puffiness under your eyes, so here are a few simple ways you can deal with them:

  1. Place some tea bags in ice water (or in the fridge) for a few minutes.
  2. Then place them over your eyes and rest until they become warm.
